I'm looking for information and advice about creating a personal website. I want the host to accept adult content (over 18yrs). I figure there are many here that have their own page/site.

I am more than green in this area. I have a pen name I'd like to use, however that 'name .com' is already taken. I can go the route of a .net, .us, .info etc., does anyone have experience with these issues? Good or bad experiences with certain hosts?

Any help and information will be most appreciated. Thanks. :rose:

Thanks Yank and in turn you have more questions from me. ;)

There are a couple of big questions here and they are different in their needs and answers.

1) How set on the name are you?

If you are very set on the name then the only route is to go with a different suffix .net etc.

If you are not so set on the name, you can change the spelling slightly it may be available under an alternate spelling.

2) Whichever way you choose to go the acquisition is the same, you can buy the domain name you want at any of the domain registrars, the longer you buy it for the cheaper it becomes per year, and the less you have to pay constant attention to how long you have left before needing to renew it.

3) The hosting question is the other side of the coin and is where you really need help with the answers, I had hosting with two companies both had said that content was not a problem but when it comes down to the fine print content WAS a problem.

3a) If you are looking for free hosting, you get exactly what you pay for (nothing is guaranteed, that is they give you nothing they don’t want to give you and they guarantee they can change their policy at anytime.)

3b) In paid hosting the best I have found is www.hostgator.com they have packages starting from around $7.00 a month, now for some folks that want a web site this is too much of a cost to carry month on month.

If you intend to do anything even slightly commercial, pay for your hosting it is really the only way to go.

I would contact a favourite site and ask them what host they use.

Thanks Ezzy - I appreciate your efforts. I'll be trying to make sense of things in the coming days.

Temp256, that's exactly what I did earlier, just took my brain a bit to think of that. It was a woman's site that prompted me to take this next step. Thanks for the advice.
