I am getting my first webcam soon, it will be attached as part of a computer.
Never had one and never used one before.I will use it to chat with people probably every week at least.

a. do I need to do anything or just start it up and start chattin' away ?
b. can someone record me on the other end without me knowing about it ? I would not want to be recorded without my knowledge, I would not want my face or any other parts of me showing up online without me deciding to do it.
c. If I decided to use it for sex chatting how do I decide on a model/performer ? There are a miilion sites and a million women out there, I'd go broke within a week trying to find the "right" one at a decent cost.
d. do I need to think about anything else.

Thanks for all serious input.

cam

1. if it is built into the computer and the computer comes 'set up' ie most laptops you should be fine. I assume you meant built in from the attached comment.
2. yes you can be recorded without your knowledge.
3. never looked into it.
4. I doubt it, not much to web cams.

You will probably need a chat program w/ webcam capabilities, like Skype or Yahoo Messenger or one of the many programs that allows for multiple accounts/platforms.

Yep, but if you're just talking fully clothed or shirtless, people probably won't have a reason to record you.

Don't put anything out there that you don't want plastered all over the internet. If you stick to that rule, you should be just fine.

You don't need your webcam for this, and how you decide is up to you. Most won't be at a decent cost, though, just like calling phone sex lines is very expensive.

If you're willing to put some actual time and effort into getting to know real women on multiple levels, you can probably develop at least one relationship that involves free cybersex. But look at it as a bonus, not your goal.

Ah yeah forgot that part :) Sometimes I think too much about the technical side of things I forget that there's more to it ;).

You'll need, as she mentioned, software to actually chat to people with after/provided the actual camera is/has been installed. MSN/yahoo/gmail/skype are all popular (I like all but yahoo's service, but yahoo allows for a group broadcast and I don't know if the others do) but it is easier to communicate to people you already know on them. There are also random video chats and video chat rooms that you can meet people in too.

Yeah, Hubby and I use Skype a lot when he's on the road. It's nice to be able to type, voice chat and use our webcams to communicate. It's also very user-friendly.

I'm not a huge fan of Yahoo, but the webcam feature is easy to use. Beware of spam messages if you use this one, although I think you can set it to only receive messages from those on your buddy list. It's also a resource hog.

I haven't tried Google's chat client yet, but I'm a fan of Google's other products, and I'm guessing it's better than Yahoo Messenger, so I'd check that out along with Skype.

I like skype, I have used it with family in the past. If I was using on a regular basis skype would probably be preferred by myself I think as people can call me on it. I know some people that have skype phones at home which makes it a little easier to use for them too.

I do like gmail chat and it is probably my favourite to use presently. I used to play with a woman from lit on there and never had any issues. I also think that it is less of a computer resource hog (but I haven't actually looked at them running).

I hate yahoo for most things. However, from what I've seen americans really seem to like using it so I got it so I can talk to some people from lit and other sites via IM. I don't think anyone I know here uses yahoo. I doubt you would use it much but the ability to have many people view your webcam broadcast is a bit different. I don't know if the other 3 allow it (I don't use it so not an issue for me but I don't think they do) you can always get around this though if you wanted to. I much prefer msn although from what i hear the new version is rubbish. I don't mind their video feed when I used it but if I was to go on cam right now and had a choice between the 4 I would choose gmail at this moment.

I think (in my opinion only) that in terms of a service that will connect you to people easiest and a larger audience I would go yahoo and then skype. If you were inclined you could install all 4 like I have and then really no issues. I do normally take a look at the options when I install to have them not start with the computer and keep things under control when the applications do run. I was using trillium at one point too but it also has a few things I dislike but for connect to the masses it can be useful and I think newer versions have cam support. I do use pidgen on the occasion now but I haven't looked to see if it supports cam.

i've video chatted on msn, yahoo, and skype. Skype was by far the best in terms of video quality.

I am fan of gmail chat it is easy to use and browser based!
