One of my all too many chores is building and maintaining my other halves web site - she is an artist. I was trawling the stats tonight out of curiosity before I tackle a major re-build of the site. My domain web-at-work.com kindly provides me with detailed analysis of everyone who accesses the site.

Listed in the top 30 'countries' by access is US GOVERNMENT. WTF!

Admitedly they were only just in the list, above Malaysia and Vietnam, but what gives here? The site gets 60,000 hits per month, that means the US Government is accessing the site on a regular basis.

Any one any experience of this? Do they just trawl the web looking for... well anything?

Another curiosity is the most used search string to access the site is 'punishment'. I know some art is a little difficult to take, but punishment?

Still... you know what they say about statistics.

Please feel free to hijack this rant.

The US Government 'Country' just means someone using a .gov domain. That could very well be some civil servants on their lunch break.

It's Homeland Security ... they think your wife's hiding subversive messages in her art.

As Ferawyn says, just someone using their gov computer. No big deal.
Unless you're a terrorist? :D
