War in the Middle East is imminent.
The threat that this war will escalate to a level that threatens all of us is, I believe, very real.
Saddam has had a decade to prepare to achieve his clearly stated goal of the destruction of Israel. Israel is a nuclear power that will do everything possible to prevent this from happening.
The news is full of discussions of how this war will play out. I hope and pray for a peaceful resolution. Even so, while not necessarily likely, the possibility exists for a nuclear exchange large enough to threaten the atmosphere with substantial nuclear fallout.
Should enough fallout circle the globe to present a health risk to those who work outside, we can expect public infrastructures to break down quite quickly. Power, water and sewer services will fail in many communities. Food supplies will be quite limited.
Is this risk large enough that we should individually and collectively be actively engaged in preparing for it?
