Have you seen this show? It was mentioned in an another thread and I just had to give it a plug.

I almost fucking orgasmed from the meritocracy, its Darwinian nature, its insults, the hosts uber-bitchieness.

It is FANTASTIC! I wanna' play!

I know its probably old hat to the folks from the UK but I am smitten with it.

Huge thumbs up!

Yep, I saw it last night/earlier today while doing some channel surfing before WWF started. Very entertaining game show. Kinda reminded me of the show Greed that was on Fox awhile back, only done a lot better. Kinda sucked that they voted out James though. Judging by his partners comments, I think they were against him partialy because of his age.

And what was up with that host? My god, she was cold hearted towards all the contestants. Her line about how they "tried" to give the contestants money to win but they (the contestants) weren't doing a good job of it was something else. Not everyday that you see the hosts make sarcastic remarks towards their own players. I liked it! LOL

I prefer to be......

the missing link myself.

Hey. Where am I?

I know who I am - I'm not you.

Dear Anne

RE Flags comment.

If shes made it over in the US can we export her quick before they see sense? And take her passport away so she can't get back?

Re: Dear Anne

I don't know guys - it seems a little gimmicky to me. Sure was nice to see the undertaker win last night and he sure had the best lines "She outLIVED her usefulness", but I'm not sure if the show is going to make it in its current format.

The brits are a bit odd in their tastes, remember that they liked Big Brother as well and look at what a bomb THAT was on this side of the creek!

Did hear a rumor that NBC might snatch Rich Hatch to host the show after they run out their current supply. Personally I can't stand the guy but it might be fun to see his arrogant self telling people THEY are the weakest link - but thats just me.

I thought it was good, but it just seemed sooooo FAKE.

Did you all notice a lot of things, I dunno if it was just the contestants or what. The question and answering was good.

But everyone seemed like they had no heart with the other players, and when they got voted out they would do some weird gestures to the other players, or walk off all strange, then it would have like that little interview of what they felt of being voted out and they would say things like "there all losers!" "i got cheated out of all the money, i deserved to win! no one else!" and much more things. Everyone just seemed awfully fake when they said anything other then the answers to the questions. I was laughing because of how corny certain parts were.

Again i dunno if its the show or just those people but just bout every contestant just acted fake when they got kicked out.

There has been a feature on the news here (in the UK) on how US audiences and participants would take to this style of host. As contestants become more aware of what to expect there has been an increasing tendency for witty retorts in the face of Anne Robinson's criticism. This tactic is limited by the fact that she eventually gets to say her catchphrase to them all but one, and also by the fact of 'in-fighting' between contestants. When they show the reactions to those who have been voted off it's interesting how enraged some are. Quite a few are fairly philosophical about it all, but most tend to react badly. There have been celebrity editions of the show, and these tend to have some instant appeal too.

For the record, Anne Robinson is well known here for her consumer advice programme "Watchdog" where she regularly gives businesses who have failed their customers in some way a tough time. Quite often there are 'results' in the way of compensation and public apologies by errant companies who have been placed under the media spotlight. She seems to have made the transition from 'people's champion' to 'people's antagonist' rather smoothly.

I like her, in fact I like anyone who calls a spade a spade. She is certainly no appologist.

Hell.... six beer and i'd do her. Of course, six beer and i'd do Andrea Dworkin

Man if you think she's a hard nosed bitch in that show you should have seen her on the other show she used to host (Watchdog), it was a consumer afairs programme and she almost had the exec's from Ford UK in tears, Brit companys hate her because she won't take no for an answer and she nails their ass's everytime.
