We talk about reparations for blacks what about reparations for the chinese

how come we never hear anything about that in the news in canada or america are they less important than the black people.

shouldn't they be angered and revolt because the blacks are being given more preferential treatment

I prefer preparations for Chinese.

I honestly have tried to use chopsticks but, though I have good manual dexterity, I cannot operate them successfully. The food is great so maybe I don't have the patience required to eat with this ancient method.

I prefer to have silverware available. That's my prep.

but i just got thinking in my readings the other day about how many 100's of 1000's of chinese died in the building of the railroad systems in northamerica.

I practically hear about the effects in slavery on the black community weekly, if not daily.

No reparations for any though.

I know I was just thinking to myself about it all and wondering which group really got over itself and moved on despite its history in north america and made things better for themselves.

personally I believe reparations would be an insult given to any group taken from anyone today, but thats just my useless opinion

The cost of research alone will wipe out the amount of reparations paid.

immigrants from all countries (except maybe england) got treated like shit when they first arrived here. it's almost as though it were a right of passage. the chinese who came, for the most part did so voluntarily--many made their money (little though it was by american standards) and then went back home. they came because they thought they were improving their lives and the lives of their children. africans were brought as slaves. they weren't paid anything. they didn't save and retire back to the old country. just a little different. africans who went to canada prior to 1863 mostly did so to escape slavery. they would fall into the first catagory.

Prior to Prohibition, the tunnels and basements were the sunless domain of Chinese immigrants who lived and toiled in steam laundries and gunny-sack factories. Many worked to save money to pay the "head tax" required for Canadian citizenship.

Their story is told in "Passage to Fortune", an honest and moving presentation that pulls few punches in dealing with the racist attitudes in North America 100 years ago, and how Chinese Canadians rose above them to find happiness and prosperity.

Chinese immigrants lived, worked and slept (background bunks) beneath the streets of Moose Jaw.

that is a saying they used to say according to our CBC canada vignettes

some sources say the numbers could be closer to 10-20 for every mile of track

Only those who were actually themselves slaves (pssst - they're all dead) should be paid reparations.
Only those who were actually slaveowners (pssst - they're all dead, too) should pay reparations.

I know you're being tongue in cheek in suggesting reparations for Chinese-Americans, Todd, but blacks and Chinese are just the beginning. How about the native Americans, whose land we're sitting on today? How about the Mexicans, the best part of whose land was stolen from them in the Mexican-American War? How about homosexuals, who have been, and still are, viciously oppressed? For that matter, African-Americans are still being brutally oppressed even today. It's not like the only wrong that was done to them was slavery. Face it-- this nation's wealth is built on theft.

What about the present slavery in America where our wages paid for with our limited time on earth, is paid through extortion by the federal/state governments and their pet projects? How about the absolute throwing away of our taxes by bribing governments that hate us? What about the taxes wasted on the radical environmental pet projects mandated by government? What about the waste of our money in enforcing non-victim (freedom of choice) laws?
Everyone is a slave to someone, the blacks are slaves to their "representatives" that keep them tied to "Massa' by reparation rhetoric, and continued funding of a welfare system as reward to those that "don't act white." Instead, education opportunities could lift those that desire it out of a need for massa to shit them a check every two weeks for erroneous wrongs of the past. But then again, some consider a good education as "trying to be white."
