1) Perhaps the female detective is undercover in a criminal organization. Her identity gets exposed and she has to face the consequences. This would be in the nonconcest category.

2) Maybe she's a homicide detective and she's investigating a suspect who she sends up having a sexual relationship with. The suspect turns out to be a dangerous killer in the end. This would be like Basic Instinct in reverse. This also works as a lesbian story.

3) Another lesbian idea. A female detective, who's overworked with no time to date, gives comfort to a female victim. The detective needs critical information from the victim, so they stay in touch and talk a lot. The detective is straight, but the victim is bisexual. They eventually have a sexual relationship.

Thoughts? Ideas? Takers?

I'm close to finishing a three chapter, 45,000 word story like no. 1, above. Rewrites and editing will take an additional week, so it should start going up in another 10-15 days.

Sounds interesting. Post it in this thread when it gets approved. I'd love to read it.

I use the search function and there aren't many good female detective stories out there.

This author is really good. I've started reading his stuff and i think it's amazing.

I also have an undercover detective story, but it will be out on the 21st of this month.

Way back when I was new here, I wrote something similar. Here's the link to Chapter 1. I've tried to give a fresh spin to your idea #2. It's not exactly good-defeats-evil, but I think you might like it nonetheless.

Also playing around with an idea like 1. Although I have the cop's (or journalist) cover found out, but she is not aware...at least not right away. I have a spa turning out sexed crazed lesbians (because how can I get more cliched?) and of which she is turned out herself.

My TnT series features a lesbian detective as one of the main characters. What happens to her during the course of the story is pretty rough, but it's not intended to be arousing. Not all of it, anyway. Her relationship with her partner is very loving and romantic, but what happens to her when she is captured by the villains is anything but.

Love the detective part, but how about:
Straight detective notices a chick. they share an awkward glance. Later, chick's roommate's car gets hit. detective investigates, meets chick again, overworked with no time to date, ...

I had an idea for a detective mainstream novel. Wrote 2 or 3 chapters worth. Have he whole thing outlined, chapter by chapter.

Chapter 1 of my detective story finally posted today. Deep Undercover.

Chapter 2 should arrive around midweek, and chapter 3 a week after that, I hope.
