We need a toy chest. With a lock. On the cheap.

Any suggestions?

I have a landlady that's a little too "involved". She never comes in without a legitimate reason, but her version of legitimate and mine are a little different. I want to keep my personal life just that, personal.

Right now my top dresser drawer looks like an adult party store. Dildo, buttplug, paddle, rope, blindfold, condoms, etc...I mean, what ELSE are we going to use that stuff for.

The chest itself can be in plain view, but it HAS to have a lock. We don't have a lot of money to spend, so...ideas?

First off it’s illegal for her to just walk in.

Second a chain lock on the back of the door is probably the easiest thing. Another option could be a toolbox w/ a padlock. I think you could do it for less than 20 @ wallyworld

Edited for a bad spelling mistake.

Cirrus, we bought a trunk from wallyworld for $20 and bought a small key lock to secure the hasp. It sits on the floor of our bedroom and is innocuous enough to cause no undue attention.

edited to add that it is large enough so that you needn't ever buy anything larger when your toy collection grows, and you can store blankets/comforters on top of your toys. If anyone did find a way to bypass the lock they would see stored winter items.

Have you considered a filing cabinet? It can lock, and as an added benefit, most of them are fireproof. Use the top drawer for the important papers and the bottom for your toys.

Also

You can pick up great bargains at Thrift Stores, (Salvation Army-Goodwill, etc.). Then simply install a cheap lock on them. :rose:

I have the $20. Wally world trunk. It fits my decor nicely...

now if I could just fill it up.

Footlocker...................K mart 20 bucks plus a lock.....But now that I think about it ....It came with a lock but I added one too it.......

Damn kids...........

This is the time of year all the Marts have footlockers in stock, too, for the back-to-college crowd. But I like the filing cabinet idea. Top drawer- whips and flails. Second drawer- restraints...

lol,I have a 12,9,and soon to be 8 year old.

I know the feeling... ;)

I use a large duffle bag and a small padlock with keys....I keep the keys on my own keyring, and the dufflebag in the bottom of the closet. Just slip the lock through the double zippers.

The dufflebag is getting REALLY heavy though when I need to lug it around, so I'm considering moving everything into a suitcase on wheels and use the padlock in the same way. Easy enough to pull out, and no one thinks twice about seeing a suitcase in a closet.

If you have one of those stores like Linens and things, I got a plastic (hard) footlocker for $14.99. It has a hasp for a lock. I put all my toys in there and I likc it up to keep prying eyes away. It is the size of a regular footlocker and is twice as light. Maybe Home Depot has them too.

Do you have a suitcase?

You can get a really secure lock for the one you already have. It won't cost a whole lot either. I'm not talking about one of those cheap tiny key thingies. I'm talking about of of those 4 digit code locks. They are REALLY secure.

You can also use it in your play. ;)

There is absolutely NO reason why she would be getting into your locked suitcase. Stick it under your bed or in your closet. She can move the case itself, but has no reason to open it. :)

My other suggestion would be to set a trap for this woman who does not know to stay out of your stuff.

Put a note in a drawer that says "<her name> Please do not invade our privacy". When she finds it I imagine it will shock her to back off a bit.

;) Best of luck on this situation.

For a good small padlock, there is a black mini padlock made by Master (hmm, how appropriate) that is very secure, not at all like the normal suitcase mini padlocks I've seen. It has an actual fitted key. These are the only locks I use if I actually intend for something to remain locked. I like the combination ones for ease of use but I haven't found one yet that isn't too easy to reset itself when opened/unlocked, thus making them unusable.

We use a small filing cabinet. It is next to the bed and is covered in fabric with velcro closures for easy access. It looks somewhat like a bedside table. There is a built in lock. It is perfect for our toys, books and videos. I also have a small lock box inside for special items.

We travel to parties with our toys in a small rolling suitcase.

The stretcher bar is an old broom handle with eyelets at each end. I frequently thread rope through the eyelets and hand it off the shower rod to dry sweaters. The kids see it in the closet and think it is my drying rod..

Get a copy of the local paper and the paper for the nearest big city.

Check out the auctions.

Postal auctions are the best in Harris County. School auctions are good too. You can get top notch stuff for dollars.

A filing cab would be my first choice as well.

(I use a bag that is often mistaken for a "doctor's bag" Heh heh heh.)

Here is the link to the auction pages for this past week. Who knows. (Not sure where you are, but I figured there might be some others here who would enjoy the link.)

I have an archery case that's lockable. It's also big enough to hold to 47" spreader bars. They were 48" but I had to trim an inch to get them to fit.
