Apparently they are not appreciated by the scouts.

“We are shocked and disappointed by this reprehensible behavior," Deron Smith, a spokesman for the venerable scouting group, said in a statement on Friday.

"The isolated actions of these individuals are absolutely counter to our beliefs and what we teach," Smith said. "We are reviewing this matter and will take appropriate action.”

A quote from Utah Boy Scout leader Dave Hall after tipping over a boulder in the state park. The boulder had been balanced on its base for 170 million years.

The three responsible citizens now face felony charges, with likely hefty fines and jail time. These sort of role models are particularly valued in the BSA.

The philosophy used to be; take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints. Hell, we weren't even allowed to bury compostables, other than our field latrine and campfire ashes.

Now the assholes are singing a different song than they sung on their dumbass video.

NOW they are stating they did it for the poor chhhyyyuulldren that could have been hurt.

WTF? Yeah, it was not ready to tip after 200 million years dumbasses. They are just stating that excuse now because NOW they know what deep shit they are in and are NOW building their defense for the court case, fine and jail time that will be coming up.

The idiot Dan Hall stated that the park was not like Yellowstone where you just look at things, this park is there to explore and climb.

I highly doubt those dumbasses had any clue the significance of that rock. I hate to side with ignorance but I really hope they walk. There isn't even a point in making an example of them.

Uncanny.

WTF? Case in point why they should be made an example. Ignorance is not an excuse for stupidity.

There is no point other than sheer spite to go after these guys. They knocked over a fucking rock. And yes ignorance in many cases is a good excuse for stupidity. This doesn't even really fall under stuff they should have just known was wrong like spray painting their names on it.

Really their sin boils down to youtube and camera phones. Nobody would have ever gone and looked for them or even noticed otherwise. They've been sufficiently shamed now let em go and call it a fucking day.

...oh boy...

There isn't, the only reason to go after these guys is to be a prick. It's no different than when napster came out and artists tried to sue kids in their garages for hundreds of thousands of dollars. It's a waste of resources.

Outdoor Ethics

Help protect the backcountry by remembering that while you are there, you are a visitor. When you visit a friend, you take care to leave your friend's home just as you found it. You would never think of trampling garden flowers, chopping down trees in the yard, putting soap in the drinking water, or marking your name on the living room wall. When you visit the backcountry, the same courtesies apply. Leave everything just as you found it.
Hiking and camping without a trace are signs of an expert outdoorsman and of a Scout or Scouter who cares for the environment. Travel lightly on the land.

Not that I really buy their story but if you did you would totally cut down trees in a yard or trample flowers.
