NaNaNaNaaaaa...

Queen's Jubilee.

50 years of dedicated service to her country.

Now what American President has the opportunity (or the inclination) to do that?

Don't you wish you hadn't won that War of Ind...Inde...Indep...that war now?

God Bless You Ma'am...

:D

Fuck off brit wanker. You couldn't even redesign your most famous car had to have the germans come in and do it for you. :)

Who'd want to redesign a car only the rich can afford to buy.

Whereas the Germans like that sort of thing...

They've always followed orders...

(with apologies to Rex - but it's true innit?)

:D

Ahh but the car i was talking about was the mini

<-------------

Certainly not a rich person car. The cooper starts at 16,000 US.

I used to be a royalty buff, UNTIL after I saw how they treat the wives of the their sons over there. So sad. In any cae, are the British people truly celebrating? I wasn't sure the Royals were all that popular anymore. Of course, for a weekend national party, I'd like Pres Bush for a short time. Very short time.;)

This will be like Anthropology to the Americans, but I spent yesterday at a Jubilee village fete, outside a half timbered pub in a little village in the Malvern Hills.
They had nine pin bowling, coconut shies, guess the weight of the cake, a pig roast, plant and cake stalls and a jubilee hat contest.
The vicar was there and the chairman of the parish council.
There was red white and blue bunting and union jacks everywhere, and we all sang Land of Hope and Glory.
I sat in the sun and played my music.
My son had to make do with being one of the thousands who went to Buckingham palace.
Don't tell me the Queen is not popular.

Sounds absolutely perfect...

:)

Oh, I wasn't criticising, I was curious is all, as to whether the Queen was still much-loved by the people. You hear of their disenchantment just as we get that way about our political leaders but we have chances to vote them out at least. I feel perhaps William will make a very good monarch, if given the chance.

Everyone loves the queen its just the rest of the family they don't like.

As with many issues a minority of the people shouting loudly can give the wrong impression.
Looking out my window now many of the houses in my street are flying union jacks or the cross of saint George. Because of the jubilee we have had polls and surveys taken to gauge peoples opinion of the monarchy all of these showed that a substantial majority still want Britain to remain a kingdom. Amongst younger people support is less, however they will grow older and I feel the older they grow the more their opinions will change. It's difficult to be nostalgic when you're twenty.

Australia and Bermuda both had votes last year and both voted to keep the queen as head of state. The
arguements for becoming a republic are very flawed. It would cost Britain pretty much the same to have a head of state whether it was a president or a queen. Being called a republic makes you no freer, Syria, Iraq and China are republics. Holland, Norway and Denmark are monarchies. I know which countries I prefer.

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN

its all good and well giving us a couple of days off but if you work for the council and are garunteed to have no work you miss out on more money

example i have lost 2 days pay and people who have been given the opportunity to work through their companies are earning up to tripple time so instead of taking home about £16 per hour im having a day off bored and skint.

rule britannia

every person i know both family and friends couldnt give a monkeys about the royal family and have no interest celebrating her anniversary

there are no street parties planned in most of south wales. not to the same degree that was given when charles and di got married. (she was the real peoples princess)

i hope the concert doesnt go ahead this evening because of the fire this evening and yet another black spot gets put alongside the queens celebrations

sorry to rant but i am out of pocket big time

Well in mid-Wales there will be plenty of parties. Sports for kids and adults. Displays of photo's of the the area down the years. Food and a bar.

Probably the first chance for the whole area to have a proper get together for 18 months (since before the foot and mouth epidemic).

Between the football (on tv) and the celebrations, I've never heard the countryside so quiet. Not a tractor stirs, no sheep being moved from field to field.

wooooohoooooooooo Turkey 1 : Brazil 0

apologies accepted.... lol

I prefer the good old mini ...
RR and Bentley in german hands ? well... as long as they just change some technical stuff it's good for the company and the brand. Hopefully the don't change the art of handcrafted conolly-leather and the woodwork.
I'm working hard to afford my initials there..... nevermind
Nobody's sorry when AstonMartin went to Ford ?
What's wrong with Mercedes and McLaren ? I guess they kinda fit together. Volkswagen/Audi and Lamborghini don't. I can't even imagine a VW-engine running in my powerboat. lol

Rex :rose:

It looks like thats the fault of your council, since it is a national holiday they are obliged to pay you for the time off. Round here the council workers will be making a mint if they choose to work, all that bunting to be put up and taken down. Flower beds to be planted red, white and blue, a civic procession to the lighting of the beacon, pig roasts etc etc. If you are out of pocket because your council refuses to join in the festivities moan at them. They're probably doing it on purpose on some political principle.

It seems p_p_ has never heard of the Inaugural Ball circuit…

You get only one coronation per lifetime (or per the King taking on an American Bird...).

But we get the Ball every four years whether it's a new guy or not..

Yes but it's not a national holiday.

If memory serves me correct it was designed by a brit even if it is owned by the Germans now.

cyber

Give it another 50 years...

It will come to resemble a coronation more and more.

Rover started the redesign on the mini before BMW bought rover.

BMW went back to the drawing borad and about started over. The people doing the actual styling of the car, interior and exterior, might have been british but most of the engineering is German.

The multilink rear is the of the same design that the 3-series uses. The engine was as joint venture by Chrysler and BMW and it is called the Pentagon. The manual is a Getrag(sp?) which is a german tranny maker. The CVT automatic was desgned by BMW too along with the body which has a torsion strentgh of 30,000 newton-meters. That is several times stronger then the BMW 3-series.

hmmm I don't see it happening. A huge precentage of people in the US don't even want to take the time to vote, but then again if it involves paid time off work...well maybe.

You forget how much we love a spectacle...

Have you ever seen the White House brag that this year's xmas tree is smaller?

A Fourth of July Celebration that boasts (rather like the accompanying sale) of 30% off last years' spectacle?

Naw, it'll be a holiday,

even if it's a celebration of the good ol' days when we used to vote...
