I've certainly seen woah before. Don't know if I've used either.
 
Whoa is the only spelling I have ever seen - and the only spelling cited in the various Oxford refs. Perhaps you saw a typo somewhere. :)

wasn't sure if it's the brit spelling i'm using. colour and color, realise and realize kinda thing.
 
Whoa for horses and meaning 'hold on a minute, slow down'.

Woah for a laddish interjection that means anything from 'wow!' to 'phwoar!' British English, unlikely to be used by anyone over 50.
 
There was one thing that the Webster article was wrong about... Ho has made a come back. :eek:
