we can do better, we should do better. education. education. education.

Education won't help. The only remedy for this kind of thing is time -- generational time.

I don't get how this is racism. Are we not hectored endlessly today that being colorblind is to be racist? Seems to me that the lady saw race, just like the Wokesters demand. Were they not expecting this outcome?

I would expect someone with such strong racial preferences at least read the “about me” section the owner stated is on her website.

Seems like a ploy for drama and attention on the part of said racist.

Wokism is nothing if not performative. The email writer wanted to show how non-racist she was by showing the owner that she "sees race" clear as a bell.

How's that working out?

as expected, there are plenty of replies here that fully-support my thread's title

Yes, it is sad isn't it. I don't do business with racists, especially when I find out that they are....Goya was a loss for me cause I liked the products and I'm sure the workers are decent. The owner is a racist Trumpist so no money!

These folks also are trying to bait....KingbabyBobo...the king of baiters.

So Will, is being colorblind racist or not?

The business owner offers refunds without questioning reasons (a generosity rarely seen in the UK) and handled this complaint with some dignity.

The complaining woman has every right to be a racist, and others have every right to condemn her for it. To choose not to purchase anything from any business is also her right. To demand a refund on a purely racist basis is racist-performance art, not a valid reason for a refund of goods or services, and is intended to insult the business owner; it displays, with unfounded pride, the racist ignorance she is made of.

Her email was brimful of racism, cultural ignorance and poor spelling, which–perhaps–may have been tempered by a better education. At least her spelling may have been up to scratch.

Wait, are you saying we should judge things on merit, not color? Do you not realize that is as racist as it comes?

and isn't that down to exposure to new ideas, cultures, information, a broadening of perspectives that comes about from education?

the manner of that education might be how to judge which sources of information to trust, or the teaching of a country's genuine history (not some sanitised, popcorn version meant for broad consumption by undiscerning palates); it may be through traveling the world, seeing other countries, other ways of living, how others look at their own country.

It's the reason so many young people in rural districts want out of there, with the restrictions of religious creeds and small-town, limited points of view. Clearly some areas are worse than others in this respect, but too many towns are seeing their populations dwindle, kids leaving who don't want to stay and run a farm or a quarry and who'd be rejected if they refused to participate in the local church business or because being gay still means being shamed for living your life, because choosing a different religion is frowned upon, because being a person of colour means discrimination, because having a different political viewpoint can be ostracising. The internet has opened up the vistas, exposure is out there.

Exposure IS education, and it's coming at a faster rate than ever before. Unfortunately, so is misinformation. I have trust that time, and education, wins out.

And when Donald Trump complained that he couldn’t get a fair trial with Judge Curiel because he’s Mexican, that’s also as racist as it comes.
