Because the Democrats don't solve people's problems, and the prosecutions of Trump play into the narrative that he's being persecuted by the establishment. The irony is that Trump would decline more politically if all criminal charges were dropped and they actually challenged him on his policies. The Democrats don't do that because they too don't solve people's problems, and Trump's behavior, particularly in regards to January 6 2021 and trying to overturn the election, scares them and they feel that they must set an example of him so that such behavior isn't tried again in the future. The thing is, everytime they attack Trump with legal methods, his popularity seems to increase.
