Red and white, blue suede shoes, I'm Uncle Sam, how do you do?
Gimme five, I'm still alive, ain't no luck, I learned to duck.
Check my pulse, it don't change. Stay seventy-two come shine or rain.
Wave the flag, pop the bag, rock the boat, skin the goat.
Wave that flag, wave it wide and high.
Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my.
I'm Uncle Sam, that's who I am; Been hidin' out in a rock and roll band.
Shake the hand that shook the hand of P.T. Barnum and Charlie Chan.
Shine your shoes, light your fuse. Can you use them ol' U.S. Blues?
I'll drink your health, share your wealth, run your life, steal your wife.
Wave that flag, wave it wide and high.
Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my.
Back to back chicken shack. Son of a gun, better change your act.
We're all confused, what's to lose?
You can call this song, the United States Blues.
Wave that flag, wave it wide and high.
Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my.
Well, I for one am proud to be an American. I am proud of the fact that some of ancestors were among the first inhabitants of Jamestown. I am proud that other ancestors were the first Europen settlers in many locations in the Southeastern US. I am proud that three generations were members of the House of Burgesses. I am proud that some of my ancestors were Scottish Jacobites that were sold into slavery in the colonies...not indentured servants but slaves. They fought for what they believed in in their native country only to exiled and eventually fight for American Independence.
I am proud that one of my ancestors was a personal friend and the personal aid the Gen. Greorge Washington.
I am proud that I have ancestors who fought and died on both side of the American Civil War for what they believed in.
I am proud that some of my ancestors fled from eastern Europe to the USA at the turn of the century to eascape antisemitism.
I am proud of the fact that I have many ancestors who fought in just about every conflict from before our independence right up to the relatives fighting in the current conflicts throughout the world.
I am proud that I was fortunate enough to be born into the greatest nation on the Earth.
I am NOT proud of some of the actions of the American Government throught our brief history. But guess what? I can say it.
We are still in the process of learning and shall always be. But there ain't no place I'd rather be.
It's SOOOOOO fucking easy to bitch and complain about this and that. Whether or not you agree with the politics of this or past administrations be honest. We as Americans are truly blessed.
So.....HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!!
What about you?
Why are you proud to be an American? And PLEASE....DO NOT MAKE THIS A FORUM TO EXPRESS YOUR POLITICAL VIEWS.
