Wat's Guns-N-Stuff Thread

I gave that idea of using a Garand for long distance some more thought, and watched a few videos and decided that it wasn't a good idea. Basically, like the videos concluded, I'd be asking it to do something it wasn't meant to do and wouldn't be good at.

So, back to the workshop to come up with some other crazy mad scientist idea.

How long is long? The NM boys get 600 yards out of them with scores in the 480s out of 500.

The below is because the 21st century US politicians do the things that make the founders puke.

They make Jesus puke, too.

Watched a video where a guy took a Garand and tarted it up for PRS/distance. $5k later it arrived with a broken scope mount. He sent it back to Springfield and they fixed it. One range session later the fixing bolt stripped/broke again.

For the range session match they paired this rifle with a $1000 "custom" but bottom-dollar rifle which shot the ears off the Garand and didn't break anything.

Upshot is that the Garand is a great battle rifle but it's not suitable outside that box compared to better and more cost effective weapons.

Okay. All that might well have been beyond its capabilities and certainly its design scope. But a good match rifle will hold a couple of minutes at 600 yards, and that'll keep it on a torso. That's what I'm looking at, basically.

My vote won't make a lick of difference. I haven't bothered in years. I have better things to do.

And the question was:
What do think should be done to prevent Donald Trump from being elected?

An empty suit. No answer.
No one should fear or respect wat. Wat is weak.

There’s a reason why I say “We the good members” run this thread and why most of us are on ignore. It’s deadly for the ammosexuals here to interact with us.

I understand. I have an Italian Carcano made in 1937 that could consistently ring the 500 yd gong with open sights back when I was shooting it. With factory issued corrosive ammo too.

I tried working with it for better performance but gave up after realizing that the cost would exceed a high end custom build and I still wouldn't really get the desired results. I love old hardware but trying to make it compete against modern weaponry isn't worth it. Not even for bragging rights.

A 6mm or 6.5mm Creedmore barrelled action from Howa, a middle-of-the-road chassis, optics and accessories combined with a few hand loads for performance dialing would cost less than $3500 including the basic accessories you'd need to get started. With that setup you'd be shooting with the best of the best at any "small pond" gun range up to a mile and looking to move up to start being competitive at 2 miles in a year or 2.

Those 2 years, and $10,000, would get you a really nice .375 Lapua reliably ringing the gong at 2 miles. If you want good hits at longer distances than that you'd need .50BMG or equivalent.

None of that can be done with a Garand without spending millions of dollars on it. And then it wouldn't really be a Garand.

For the sake of discussion. My LR rifle is good to go out to 1200 yds. I have one load that theoretically will get me to 2000 yds. but I'd have to mount a 20MOA rail and then find a place to test that range. What I'm running is essentially a M2010 clone.

Given the fact that the Army has no intention of retiring the M2010 sniper system they are going to stick with bolt guns for the long range shit.

Now, allegedly, the XM7 rifle ( a 270 on steroids) with the Vortex XM157 Fire Control System mounted is good to go out to 1300M. That system is still under evaluation and I suspect, based on retained energy at range, the 800M is going to be the max. effective range, and that's good for a battle rifle.

Just finished mowing the lawn with my Kioti 4wd tractor. How can a rural man call themselves a man if they don't own a tractor?

Yeah. Basically? No. But then again, we weren't surprised.

WEnt to dinner with a friend of mine. We have a good time when his missus let's him come out to play. He wonders who's running the show - we kinda know who ain't runnin' it.

We also talked about M1s. That was his Army issue back when he went in.

This ^^^ represents the Deplorable ranchette owner's definition of "manhood".

Mowing his LAWN, fer godsakes! These wannabe "ranchers" buy a couple acres, a foreign-made tractor, and a few animals and fantasize about being land barons.

Suburban cowboys

That would prove interesting.

We lost a Valerie early this year. She was a lot of help to a lot of people and she raised up the human condition. She grew tired and Allah called her home to sit with him at his banquet table. Wat misses people like that. Wat has little to no use for people not like that.

I'm looking at this gun. It's just sitting there. No effort to kill me at all. I suppose that it's defective.

Not sure what to make of that . . . .

On that note, I think that I shall shop and see if I can find myself an old Fordson that's a crank-'em-up model just to be the manliest man on my end of the county.

I thought you said you were old skool, so why are you looking at modern tractors?

Get one of these instead

https://www.berrybrooksteam.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/IMG_4739-1024x768.jpg

Then you KNOW you're going to be the manliest man in the county.

Although, if being the manliest is your goal, I'd skip the ghetto wheels on the small one.

You actually were baited there to bring the conversation back to Carbon WaterTM to work in the Carbon Steam TractorTM. And my nefarious plan worked.

The only issue with any of that rolling stock is, no Ferguson hitching apparatus on any of it.

Also, it's be a real bitch getting the steam tractor stuck in the south 40.
