I keep my weapons loaded and not all in one place around the house with no trigger locks. If a child comes in the house and I know in advance I put them all in one place and keep that room off limits. I also keep an eye on the child while in my home. i also tell the parents there are loaded weapons in the house.

It is well proven that kids that grow up around responsible gun owners are much better off than those that were not exposed to them.

They did hidden videos of kids coming across guns, and the kids who had grown up around guns, and learned to respect them went immediately to adults to tell them about the guns they found. The kids who grew up in gunless houses were intrigued by them, and started playing with them, the fascination being, something deemed wrong by their parents, made them more inquisitive.

My kids all know, my guns are always loaded, and they also know if I ever catch them playing with them, they will be in serious trouble. But as a parent that is consistent, when I say they will go without their phones for a week, they REALLY will go without their phones. They know playing with them is a serious matter.

When that guy came into my house at 2AM, I had no gun by the front door, nor was it loaded. In short, I was not prepared.

I will say, as I was jacking in a round into my pump shotgun, he exited the building quickly, proving guns deter crime. The police later said I was well within my rights to shoot him, though in this case I was glad I didn't. (Castle Doctrine)

Today, my AR-15 is loaded with a round of soft-lead, a hollow point, and then an armor-piercing round in that rotation of three, down through the stack. I have a green tracer as the 25th round to let me know I only have 5 left, and a red tracer to let me know I have used up my clip and that the gun did not jam. That is labeled with a skull and crossbones sticker to identify it as my self-defense clip. It is always in my AR...

All of the gun shows I've ever attended had firearms, if you were carrying, you were required to unload said firearm then they zip tied the action open. As a matter of fact all the firearms at the shows the actions are zip tied open.....

A few years back, a buyer at the gun show close to me, suicided himself when he went into the parking lot. No other fatalities.

Got one of those but it spends it's days locked up. I use my PSA model for almost all my shooting. I prefer the full floating barrel design.

On my to-get list is another 20" barrel. I think that the 5.56 wants-n-needs that.

I did some playing around with barrel length. Very marginal difference in velocity or accuracy (using a red dot). The 20" barrel would be helpful if you're going to be shooting irons only (longer sight radius).

I think some of those accessories work well. You can really customize the rifle for it's intent.

I put a binary trigger on one of mine, and it works really well for taking out coyotes that are getting close to livestock. It just gives you that second round on a fast running predator.

I used to do a lot of rounds in a given shooting session, but found now that I like precision shooting better. Its just more my style and personality, than just mag-dumping. Unfortunately, the longest shot I can take on my farm is 3/4 of a mile, so I am kind of limited on long-range shooting.

1320 yds is a good stretch for most rifles.
