Sasha giggled at the great mutt and stroked his head as he lay contentedly in the middle of the mattress. She leaned into his warmth and enjoyed the smell of breakfast wafting up the stairs from the kitchen.

Even though no one was ever around to see it, Rex had gotten pretty good at stuntwork in the kitchen. Juggling utensils, flipping pancakes and toast, making a show of chopping food up. Having lived on his own for ten years, he had to learn how to cook. As one of his heroes, Robert Rodriguez had once put it, not knowing how to cook was like not knowing to fuck.

"Sasha! It's almost ready! Get that sexy ass of yours down here before I eat it all myself!"

She laughed to herself and hopped out of bed. She opened Rex's closet and found a nice big t-shirt she threw on while running down the stairs. Entering the kitchen, she sniffed the air happily and sat at the table to wait.

Rex smiled at Sasha when she came to the table. He set a plate and silverware down in front of her along with a glass of milk. He pulled down a bottle of maple syrup and twirled it around his finger by the handle like a gun before setting it down on the table. Beside the a skillet. Two of the other burners on the stove were making omelettes.

He took up one of the skillets and shifted the omelette around a moment, flipping it onto its other side. He sprinkled a little salt and ground pepper onto it before pivoting around and sliding it onto Sasha's plate.

Rex took up the skillet with the French toast and flipped the slice into the air. He quickly put the plate under it and let it land on the stack which he then slid half of onto Sasha's plate.

"Help yourself." He dumped the rest of the food onto his plate and plopped into a seat across from Sasha with a proud grin.

Rex didn't sit so much as lazily collapse into his seat and began eating. "So, what are we going to do with all of our free time today?"

Sasha shrugged.

"I dunno." She spoke through her food, hand covering her mouth. "Anything. What do you usually do on a Saturday?"

"Honestly?" Rex looked up thoughtfully for a moment. "I usually get up around 10 and then watch cartoons for a couple hours. Then I eat, watch a little TV, then go cruising and window-shopping, sometimes with my friends, until dinner and after that I work on my comics until about midnight. That about covers it."

She grinned at him.

"Well, I'm up for what ever you'd like to do today. Use me, abuse me, ignore me or send me home, anything you want I'll do for you today." She stood and held her fork aloft. "I declare today Rex's day!"

Rex smirked and wiggled his eyebrows. "'Bout time somebody recognized my greatness." He ate for a moment, thinking about what he wanted to do. "Well... I know this great spot in town with lots of nice little shops and restaurants. Ever had bubble tea?"

Rex smirked. "It's green or black tea mized with fruit juice and milk served with ice. The bottom of the cup is lined with fresh-made tappioca beads about the size of a malted milk ball.

"I know a little place that serves East Asian food and bubble tea. Make it a point to go there at least once a month."

Sasha giggled.

"Ok, lets start that tradition today!" She spoke as she ran from the kitchen and out the back door. "Come over when you're done eating and getting dressed, don't bother to knock" She called over her shoulder and disappeared over the fence.

Rex finished his meal quickly and got dressed. He selected a pair of blue jeans, a Daredevil T-shirt, and an open black-and-red buttondown to go over it. He put more food and water out for Capone and strolled over next door.

He let himself in and looked around. "You ready to go, baby?"

Sasha loved Saturdays. She had no obligations at all on Saturday and relished the free time. She took a leisurely shower before drying off and walking to her bedroom to select clothing. A tight pair of dark washed blue jeans and a green t-shirt were her final choice. Leaving her hair down, she quickly applied a small bit of make-up as she heard Rex call from downstairs. Finishing up, Sasha smiled to her reflection and ran down the stairs.

"All set! Let's go!"

Rex pulled Sasha into his arms, pulling her into a dip and a passionate kiss before setting her upright. "My car or yours?"

Sasha giggled and kissed Rex back before speaking.

"I drove last night, I think it's your turn." She winked at him and walked out the door.

Rex's car was a silver used Saturn. What it lacked in inherent flair was made up for with decoration. Dragon seat covers and floormats, snarky bumperstickers, an 8-ball antenna cap, and other odds and ends.

"The dominant male in me is happy to be behind the wheel again. Word of caution, buckle your seat belt. I'm a speed demon." Without giving Sasha a chance to repond, Rex pulled out of the driveway and tore off down the street.

Sasha snickered to herself when she saw the car. It had all the trappings of a bachelor. She climbed distastefully into the passenger side and without having the time to reach for the seatbelt, they were racing off down the road. When she finally had it buckled she turned to Rex.

"What the hell? Are you trying to kill us?" She laughed and unrolled her window, letting her hand hang outside. Leaning back into her seat, she closed her eyes and smiled, enjoying the motions of the car.

"You worry too much," Rex playfully scoffed.

He reached over to the CD player and turned it on. The thunderingt drom solo intro to Painkiller by Judas Priest began blasting out of the speakers. Rex bobbed his head to the beat while still keeping his eyes on the road and began singing along with Rob Halford. He made no attempt to duplicate the singer's falsetto, but at least he was able to carry a tune.

Sasha laughed happily at Rex's attempt at singing. She hummed along quietly, tapping her hand on the side of the car through the window.

They got through the album up to Leather Rebel by the time Rex pulled into a small parking lot. He turned off the engine and hopped out of the car as he pocketed keys as if holstering a pistol. "It's just a short walk from here."

The shop they came to was about 50 feet away. It was a quaint little bistro from which the alluring smell of Asian food wafted. The menu was taped up to the inside of the window, visible to those passing by. "Take a look. See anything you like?"

"Hmm" Sasha crossed her arms over her chest and looked over the menu. "I'm not sure. How do I know what's good? Why don't you just choose something for me? I trust your judgement....sort of." She winked at him and laughed.

Rex shrugged and they walked into the restaurant. "They serve a lot of stuff here. Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese. The cooks are from Hong Kong, but they love making just about anything that comes off the Asian continent."

He found them a table, than moved up to the counter to order. "A medium jasmine bubble tea and green apple milk tea, and an order of beef lo mein for two."

Rex paid for the food, waited a minute for the tea and went back to the table, passing the jasmine bubble tea to Sasha. "Hope you like it. This is all home-made, so they get really fussy about customer satisfaction."

Sasha sat and looked at her cup. The smell of jasmine wafting up to her nostrils made her smile and she took a small sip.

"Interesting." She sipped again, this time catching a few tapioca beads in her mouth.
