Wat’s Carbon Water-N-Stuff Thread - Concepts In Iron And Wood!!!

Dam it! It's too early for me to be thinking of buying something like this.

Only bad part is the salvage title. It's a PITA to convert it to "rebuilt" under California registration rules and unless you get that done it's really, and I mean REALLY, difficult to get insurance.

Oh well, guess I'll just wait. There'll be more of these things in the future.

It wouldn't so much be the "salvage title" as the means in which salvage was conducted. It might be more Frankenstein's Monster than the Brit pimpmobile it's intended to be.

CoPart's auction ad says the salvage is due to "undercarriage damage." Which is insurance speak for "it costs too much to repair a Rolls or Bentley so we're going to scrap it instead."

Unless there's a big reserve, the auction value isn't much more than $5k because of the potential unibody damage. OTOH, I'm thinking it was driven over something and bent some suspension stuff which can be replaced and, if necessary, the subframe straightened by a frame shop.

The Bentley Continentals are RARE but don't command a big price tag for some strange reason. The pics show that this one only has either 56 or 58K miles on it. Barely broken in.

For this kind of thing, there is Caveat Emptor.

Now, if I was Wat, I'd be looking at something like this:

It's a RR Corniche 2-door hardtop coupe. Only 1190 were ever made. Finding glass for it might be a challenge, but a good glass company should be able to source replacements. The hood/grill could be problematic because they were all hand-made and parts from another car may or may not fit without serious custom body shop help. The critical interior parts are there (in really bad shape but salvageable) which is good because they're not std Silver Shadow parts either.

There are lots of donor 1967 Silver Shadows out there for things like switches, wiring harness, bumpers and lights if those things aren't inside the car with the rest of the parts.

Some sandblasting and body work, a little putty, some paint and interior work and it'd be back on the road in no time. :D

Of course Wat might have to sell his gun collection to fund it.

The DOJ has cancelled ALL Gun Control grants. :nana:

Now, if only we can point Congress in one direction and get them to craft and pass a bill clearly saying that the 2nd Amendment completely prohibits government from infringing on the Right because it is a Right held by the People and government is barred from legislating in that area by the 10th Amendment and Federalism.
