The rule in my family is you could only check out what your arms could carry... so when I was 8 I measured my arms and learned to estimate hoe many books of various sizes I could check out- was it worth it to get 14-16 nice thick ones? Or would it be better to get 20 that were about 150 pages each? LOL

Better to get the 14-16 thick ones, because you'd end up with more pages of reading, since covers are thicker than pages (unless you're getting paperbacks, in which case the difference is negligible).

Well that was a stupid rule.... I would have been a bibliophilic rebel. :)

LOL My mother would only let me get three books at a time. But I only got to see my dad for one month out of the year, so not only did he spoil me a bit, but I was normally bored out of my mind. My dad had to work all day, and he had to take the car. So I was stuck in the house until he got home, about six. I wasn't allowed to leave cause they lived near downtown Hayward (by San Francisco). So once or twice a week I could nag someone into taking me to the library to get some new books. And they let me get as many as I wanted, cause it kept me from nagging and complaining for at least a few days.
