Got this in an email from my sister. I liked it and thought I would share it for those who might enjoy it as well.

I didn't post this to be a discussion on why my rights as a Christian should be dismissed or put above, or below anyone else's rights to disbelieve or to believe in a different just religion.

Just thought that those here who feel this way, might enjoy it.

Thanks!

I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December. I don't agree with Darwin, but I didn't go out and hire a lawyer when my high school teacher taught his theory of evolution.

Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be endangered because someone says a 30-second prayer before a football game. So what's the big deal? It's not like somebody is up there reading the entire book of Acts. They're just talking to a God they believe in and asking him to grant safety to the players on the field and the fans going home from the game.

"But it's a Christian prayer," some will argue. Yes, and this is the United States of America, a country founded on Christian principles. And we are in the Bible Belt. According to our very own phone book, Christian churches outnumber all others better than 200-to-1. So what would you expect-somebody chanting Hare Krishna?

If I went to a football game in Jerusalem, I would expect to hear a Jewish prayer. If I went to a soccer game in Baghdad, I would expect to hear a Muslim prayer. If I went to a ping pong match in China, I would expect to hear someone pray to Buddha. And I wouldn't be offended. It wouldn't bother me one bit. When in Rome...

"But what about the atheists?" is another argument. What about them? Nobody is asking them to be baptized. We're not going to pass the collection plate. Just humor us for 30 seconds. If that's asking too much, bring a Walkman or a pair of ear plugs. Go to the bathroom. Visit the concession stand. Call your lawyer. Unfortunately, one or two will make that call. One or two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do.

I don't think a short prayer at a football game is going to shake the world's foundations. Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights. Our parents and grandparents taught us to pray before eating, to pray before we go to sleep.

Our Bible tells us just to pray without ceasing. Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying. God, help us. And if that last sentence offends you, well..........just sue me. The silent majority has been silent too long.. it's time we let that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard, that the vast majority don't care what they want.. it is time the majority rules!

It's time we tell them, you don't have to pray.. you don't have to say the pledge of allegiance, you don't have to believe in God or attend services that honor Him. That is your right, and we will honor your right.. but by golly you are no longer going to take our rights away .....we are fighting back.. and we WILL WIN! After all the God you have the right to denounce is on our side!

God bless us one and all, especially those who denounce Him... God bless America, despite all her faults.. still the greatest nation of all..... God bless our service men who are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God...

May 2003 be the year the silent majority is heard and we put God back as the foundation of our families and institutions.

Keep looking up......

In God WE Trust

Thank you for sharing, Kymberley. I hope that those who don't feel the same or agree with your email will at least start another thread to discuss it on and not 'dirty' up the message for those of us who enjoyed it.

The million kids in Rawanda wished some god had provided food for them so they didnt die the most horrible death imaginable too kitty.....but that didnt happen either.

And about the other comments .....I do remember reading somewhere.....

God helps those who help themselves.

Then why did he feed 5000 people with a couple loaves and a few fish?

Then let over a million kids in africa starve to death.

Christians always have an answer so I am sure you will have some metaphor, to toss out, but if christians can give god credit for all the good things that we are "blessed" with, then I can blame all the horrors on him too.

But......Go ahead.....if worshipping a ghost makes you feel better about yourself, I'm all for it.

It's just not my bag.

KS why not go make a new thread or are you simply hoping to start a KS fight ( your version of a debate)?

If you don't share Christian beliefs that's your right not to, but please have some respect for those who do.

I won't do my own part to take away the focus from the threads original intent here, by answering anything else.

I love when Christians are completely insenstive to the beliefs of others, while claiming to be good Americans. The hypocrisy is heartwarming.

Thanks Kymberley...I have a different belief system but I understand the statement of your post. I'm not going to "bag" on anyone for what they believe in, be it Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy, God, etc. My point is that I myself, as a decent human being, am tolerant of other people's beliefs. That is why I have a wide assortment of friends from around the world...:)

Honey, if i tell you that you are the hottest thing going, on a religous thread, will I burst into flames?

That's not a reference to the "burning bush", is it?

Because that would be so not funny

St. Matthew 6:5-8

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Thanks Shingen

I do agree. I have many friends from many different cultures. I am always amazed by the things you can learn from others beliefs.

A few points...

The head of Americans United For The Separation of Church and State is a Baptist preacher. Not all Christians insist on putting their rights higher than everyone else's.

I think prayer at football games is great, since most Christians, especially in the Bible Belt, treat their religion like a big football pep rally anyways. It's all about supporting the right team, and patting each other on the back for it, and feeling superior to others. No humility necessary when you are on teh right team, right?

I've read teh Bible a few dozens times, and the biggest thing I have have found is that you can use that contradictory book to support almost any action you want to. The Bible says to pray. It also tell you that the loudest prayers will go to hell, while the true Christian prays in private. In that case, the Bible warns against the exact attitude of Christians who insist on putting on the religious show in every public place.

If Christians want respect, they should show some first...but no one who thinks they are 'chosen' ever respects anyone else. That's what this is about, Christians needing to act superior to others.
