I am hopping mad. Hop hop how funny. LOL Not at all.
The following is IMO!!!
For different reasons I am very anti antibiotics and medicines unless 'absolutely' necessary. I want to know what is going into my body/children’s/hubby's bodies thanks!

I have a great Dr but it took awhile to find one that when you asked? "You are prescribing **** are there any possible side effects and not get the uh well you don't need to know because you might suddenly 'imagine' you have them."

Yes, less info is better, certainly, Dr. *beam*

I have heard the saying so many times, "A little information is a dangerous thing, because it allows us to fill in the blanks with the worst possible assumptions."

Whilst doing some herbal research I decided to enquire on the net about bigrednz's new medication (I wasn't at the Drs apt) - no 3 pill to lower blood pressure.

He has been very tired of late, etc.

"Possible Adverse Reactions [Top]

Any adverse reactions that occur are likely to be related to excessive loss of potassium. A potassium supplement usually corrects this but gout can occur in rare cases while certain types of diabetes can become harder to control. "

Possible Side Effects [Top]

Symptom --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

frequency consult dr or stop

Leg cramps Common Severe (no)
Lethargy/tiredness Rare Severe (yes)
Digestive disturbances Rare Severe (yes)
Rash Rare Severe (no)

bigrednz has spent most of the weekend feeling crook, stomach upset, ate little and slept lots. We had no idea but thought he had a virus. He went to work, hardly able to concentrate and he works with heavy machinery and a welding robot that has to be programmed by him.

So, today, lol bigrednz will be off to our Dr again.

Don't let me put anyone off using medication I am just saying be as informed as possible. Not paranoid, but ask the Dr you trust to let you know what you are putting into your body. :)

Especially to parents, there are medicines prescribed for our children that have colourings and additives in them that can cause severe reactions. ie brilliant blue colouring found in some allergy/cold medicines.
Even some of the foods we are giving our children have additives/preservative's/colourings that we may not want in jnr's body.

lol :) You are lovely, rant or no rant. Mind and body. :rose:

thanks, but you better be careful. people are going to stop thinking that you're a meanie! :nana:

Don't the medicines come with a set of directions.

All european medicines have a list of side effects in three categories, ranged in order of probability.

I am surprised a legislative culture like the US dosen't include warnings (prehaps due to fears of legal action?)

(psst..she's in new zealand)

Yeah lol I had to look on the net for side effects. I filled the prescription myself, one bottle filled with little pills, no leaflet, no warning on the label, no instructions from the pharmacist.

I am a meanie so they say :D You :nana: you, amelia badelia, study freak. :p :D You go, girl, brains and all. :)

Take that Debbie bitch home and give her a bone

Thanks. I like it 'doggie' style.
I'm not always bad. But I am
so good at doing it with who I do. :)

I hear you foxinsox, part of why I am so mad. bigrednz has already been there done that. :rose:

I had to open this thread because Debbie was RANTING!

I agree with you. The less medication we take, the better off we are. Anything that we can do through diet, exercise and life style is much better than any medication.

There will come a time when all of us will need to take something. Need is the key. Take as few meds as possible and watch for changes very closely. Sometimes we don't have a choice and have to put up with the side effects because not taking the drug has more dire consequences.

The Doctor attitude of omnipotence sucks.

Thank you for your comments, well said and thought provoking.
We are what we eat, as well as what we ingest? Chemicals, preservatives, additives and all. :)

I retire now to sleep and recharge. Nite, all. :)

My Kiwi Cutie's rants are still charming.

Take Care of bigrednz and the rest of the family Debbie. I know what you mean about the meds. *laughs* As you know, I'm now on a few of them. I can't tell if they are helping or not. I think they are. However, just as soon as I can get off of them, I'll feel a lot better.

Take Care Mate,

Old thread bumped.

I'm ranting again.

bigrednz had a bypass nearly 6 yrs ago now and has had so many diff meds. Which nearly all come with side affects.

We thought he had cognitive memory disorder from the bypass.

And that it was something he just had to put up with.

But no it wasn't the bypass.

The fucking drug he was prescribed for high cholesterol is the possible bad guy.

Who are you? God I'm tired you fucking bitch.

Good rant! It makes me nuts when patients do not question their healthcare providers and simply do what they are told to do or ingest.

ASK questions. KNOW what's going on with your own body.

I applaud your rant. :)

Thanks, nitengale. I often query our Dr but in this case we thought we were all on the right track. Including our GP.

Some more interesting info that might still help us.

http://www.healingdaily.com/detoxification-diet/coenzyme-q10.htm

http://www.aim4health.com/coenzq10.htm

"Coenzyme Q10 for a healthy heart
Ubiquinone, or coenzyme Q10, is an important nutrient. 2 of its primary uses are for those who are taking high cholesterol pills (the statin drugs in particular). Certain lipid-lowering drugs, such as the 'statins' - lovastatin, simvastatin, pravastatin - and gemfibrozil as well as oral agents which lower blood sugar, such as tolazamide and glyburide, cause a decrease in serum levels of coenzyme Q10 and reduce the effects of coenzyme Q10 supplementation (7,8). These drugs inhibit the production of coenzyme Q10 by the liver and will cause serious complications unless one supplements coenzyme Q10 back into the diet. A prescription for lipid-lowering statin drugs should always be accompanied with a recommendation to take coenzyme Q10, because if a person is deficient in coenzyme Q10, heart failure is more likely.

Beta-blockers (drugs which slow the heart rate and lower blood pressure) can inhibit coenzyme Q10-dependent enzyme reactions.(9)"

Hey, blue. You have no idea how bitchy I could be.

:D

I spelt gwaffaw wrong too lol. Or is it guffaw? I'll lean towards the later.

You must've forgotten some of our past conversations.

Yes I do have an idea.

But I'm not scared. Not a woman on earth holds a candle to dear old mom.

:p

I haven't forgotten.

I have never truly unleashed the debbie bitch here. :D

I have another suggestion. Get your prescriptions filled at the same pharmacy, not at different places.

I have prescriptions filled at Walgreens rather than by mail (cheaper at the company I work) for several reasons. One is that Walgreens is a huge chain so if I happen to forget to take my medicine on a trip, I can get refills at the local Walgreens. Sure, I could live without my allergy medicine for a few days. But I'd prefer not to mess up my system and birth control by missing ANY of my BCP.

The second reason I use Walgreens is that they have my medication history at their finger tips, no matter which store I go to. There is a better chance of a pharmacist realizing that a new drug may not interact well with an old drug if he knows ALL the drugs I have/am taking. For example: antibiotics with BCP.
