Shallow? Maybe but quick, I need advice!
May I wear an off white, maybe passes as winter white pleated skirt to Work tomorrow with a black jacket?
It's not WHITE white..
Meeting someone potentially significant and it makes me feel good, confident, you know the drill...
Please and thanks!

Is this question because of the whole don't wear white after Labor Day thing? Because if you're meeting a man that won't even cross his mind.

If it's cream or off white I wouldn't worry to much about it. The big issue is the weight of the fabric. The "rule" had a lot to do with differentiating between summer and winter clothing. Well there were a few other things, but I have always concerned myself more with whether it looks like a summer time skirt than the color.

If it makes you confident... I say go for it. Good Luck!

Wait... are you in the South? And is he old fashioned?

And yet, you knew the rule. :)

I'm pretty sure that rule's been thrown out. Plus, it's winter white, doesn't that fall into the "exception" category?

Is that a rule?

I think it's one of those things people say but no one really cares about? I don't worry about it because A) I don't wear white and B) it sounds like a pointless rule to begin with.

I took a guess because I don't see why someone couldn't wear a white skirt with a black jacket. That's not a fashion faux pas I've ever heard of. Granted, I've had very few conversations about fashion before, so maybe wearing white and black together is the  and I have just never heard it. *shrugs*

Yes I know the rule, but the only reason I thought about it is because she asked the question. Were I to walk outside my door and see a woman in a white skirt that thought wouldn't cross my mind in a million years.

And what the hell is winter white? Why isn't it just that there's white and then there are other colors that are not white?

You know, it's not WHITE white. I think they made "winter white" to work around that stupid no white after Labor Day rule! Loopholes, everybody's looking for one. :)

Also, I agree with Blu.

Is it like eggshell, only eggshell-ier? *makes vague gesturing motion*

I just googled "May I wear a white skirt with a black jacket?" and came up empty-handed. There's 30 seconds of my life I'll never get back. If the internet doesn't have a problem with it, you're probably fine.

Alternatively, do you have a pair of jorts on standby that you can wear just in case? Maybe with a denim jacket and a bolo tie? Unless you think that would look too formal. It is possible to be too classy.

You can wear whatever the hell you want. If it makes you feel good, and you feel that you look good, that's all that really matters (except for Ugg boots. Ugh :D)

The whole thing about white is the material and style, because it can get technically tricky. However, as your skirt is pleated, I'm assuming it's a heavier material, so it won't look 'summery'. White and black always look good together - they are a classic combination - particularly in a work environment. Keep your makeup tasteful, and you should be absolutely golden.

For what it's worth, I used to wear an arctic white pants with a black leather jacket and black boots and fucking rocked the look. And this was in fashion conscious cities.

A shame I can't electronically attach my colour palettes and swatches :p.
Here ya go.

Thank you all! Wearing it. It's an appropriate weight.
We moved to a new office, it's eco friendly, very high tech too and it's the first like it at The Firm. We're hosting an open house /holiday party this afternoon and the jacket is a little dressy with jewelled buttons but I think given the holiday theme, it'll be great. Thank to all for your thoughtful consideration.
Have a great day.
Love the swatches, too! Thanks.

Exactly my thoughts! Thanks for the confirmation!

And I saw this and I thought "that would be GREAT for tomorrow", it's supposed to be 50 for a high dropping into the 20's with 40-50mph wind gusts. Seriously?

So I'm going with this idea - yep, done deal! Now I just have to decide whether to wear the new "riding boots" with a 1.5 inch heel or... the "hooker/pirate boots" with a 4.5 inch heel and chains. Gee, that might be a bit much, even during the less formal Holiday Week.

Thanks all, I just need a day (or a WEEK!) off!

Don't ask me for fashion advice. Yesterday I walked out in a new top and Princess Three looked at me in disgust and told me to go and change my top. Then later on in the day told me to take it off again, but this time to go and put it outside in the dog's bed. Three going on thirteen.
.

Im stealing the "numbering the princesses" bit. I THOUGHT i had dodged a bullet with princess 2 as she was straight up tomboy till like 13, now shes as bad as princess fashionista #1. Princess 3 was BORN to look in a mirror whils tiarra clad.

If you think your travails are discouraging, try surviving the disparaging comments made about your retired "stuck in the eighties DAD!" wardrobe being picked through by a hard core fashionista. Life is tough for an aging ex-drag princess.
