And now, partially for Chen's stupidity, China is warning Taiwan of a "disaster". I do believe our defense of Taiwan is also conditional on them not provoking the war with China as well, so he should step more carefully next time.

However the US has also said that it will not defend the island if it begins an unprovoked war of independence.

It will be hard to judge though what constitutes sufficient provocation to make a Chinese invasion legitimate.

"We seriously warn Taiwan splittist forces not to wrongly judge the situation, to immediately stop the horse at the edge of the precipice and to stop all splittist activities," said Li Weiyi, a spokesman in Beijing.

why would people intentionally break their good china? We've paid good money for ours, there's no way I'm gonna break it up now.

China will move on Taiwan just as soon as they think they can weaken our resolve. They feel they are getting close. Their new ties with Russia make for a timely alliance if your goal is to push the American sphere of influence back to Hawaii (or further...).

Rest assured that Taiwan is not all that innocent. They are probing and provoking the mainland to see what direction the new leadership will take. Also just to insult the mainland to humble them and score political points at home.

They could keep their mouth shut, but they have big friends, and tension keeps aid flowing.

Our allies are some of our own worst enemies...
