In todays society of instant gratification war isn't really understood.

We live in a society were we can have fast food, microwave dinners, instant coffees etc. The ways in which we are accustomed to living if we can't have what we want in under five minutes we get very impatient.

Waiting in a traffic jam, in the express lane checkout with more than two people, flicking the remote during the commercials, bigger and better modems, faster processors. We are not trained or capable of waiting for something to occur, we want what we want and we want it now, right this instant if not yesterday.

War really does not fit into this mindset, most people of instant gratification cannot understand the need of a war that will take 6 months a year to complete, we got big bombs, big guns, big forces, but war is something that simply takes what most of us in this day and age can not or will not comprehend . . . time.

Instant gratificationers have already declared this war a loss because the allies have not complete control and Saddam is still alive{?} and in control. Instant gratification wants victory and wants it now, yet also wants no undue deaths. In most aspects of life fast and safe are not something that goes together and such is war war takes time, to prevent as few losses as possible to combatants and civilians.

considering what has been throw at iraq weapon wise and loss of life it is a hell of a lot better than if this war had been fought instant gratification style.

Why not cook dinner in the crockpot tonight, sure a few precious hours will be sacrificed, but if you have prepared it right, I am sure you will find it tastes a hell of a lot better than that cambells microwave in the can dinner you were planning

Bush is the only person I've seen who at the beginning, seemed to actually believe we'd be in and out of Iraq quickly and with minimal effort.

And no, before you say it, I didn't mean it broken down into actual running in and out of Iraq, I meant it on the scale of actual War.

True enough Angel but now that it hasn't been as fast as Bush and Company proffered it would be those of the instant gratification crowd are jumping all over it for being a failure.

I don't like the idea or thought of war, but i understand the need of this one, not for the oil fields but for the people especially those who try to surrender and get shot in the back by thier own people. for those who opt not to fight have thier families lives held hostage forcing them to fight.

As much as I talk about the police type states and private liberties and freedoms being taken away here in north america canada and the us, we are still a relatively uninhibited in our freedoms comparitively

That's the absolute truth. Could anyone comprehend in this day and age a war that lasts for a couple of years? We've lost the ability to understand real substantive changes take years not days.

That is exactly what I am seeing for this war and rebuild is a minimum of 1-2 years fighting and 2-3 rebuilding before things ever once again begin to resemble a normalace of of sanity, safety.

todd-o-buddie, evey once in a while you hit the old nail right square on the head. this is one of them. of course having nearly as many members of the media over there as soldiers is helping skew our perceptions a bit also.

i don't think it'll take two years to win but your estimate to rebuild is probably really close.

Not two years to win but two years to clean up majority resitances pockets, the die hards so to speak.
