Lincoln Park Speedway is a 1/4 mile dirt track in central Indiana.

The camera you are viewing through is situated on the outside of the track, between turns 1 and 2.

These race cars - USAC sprint cars - have an almost perfect horsepower-to-weight ratio: 1/1, which means they're incredibly powerful beasts on 4 wheels.

These sprinters are participating in "hot laps" - the first practice session. Hot laps are followed by qualifications, heat races, a semi-main, and then the main event itself.

Believe it or not, a bunch of folks spend their summer weekend nights in America participating in and attending automobile races just like this.

The cars speeding toward you have exited turn 4 and have come screaming down the short straightaway hitting roughly 130 mph before lifting off the gas for a just second, and pitching themselves sideways before instantly getting on the gas again entering turn 1 (going sideways through the turns is much, much quicker than trying to drive straight through them).

It's a minute+ thrill ride, if you can handle it...

...and the guy who starts flipping near the end and almost lands in your lap?

As you can probably guess from his totally nonchalant attitude about the whole ordeal, he was fine and after attending to the car a bit, he raced again that night.

Enjoy speed in its essence...

...and drivers who love to go fast just because they can.
