Walmart allows people to sleep in their car overnight

One lot lodger's testimonial:

Niko says: “I’ve been crashing in Walmart parking lots ever since I was able to drive — it’s a “simple comfort” for dirtbags. On long nights, you know that just down the road there’s a parking lot where you can grab some munchies, clean up in the 24-hour bathrooms, and shut your eyes for a couple hours. I always crack a window in my car to get some fresh air, and like to stop in the store to grab breakfast before heading out – think of the cost of your milk and cereal as a camping fee.”

Well if you got paid as poorly as the average Wal-Mart employee you'd find a way to save on gas too. I'm amazed the stores haven't just installed bunk beds in the storage areas.

Considering the crime rate in Walmart parking lots that is not a good ideal.

I think it probably depends on where the Walmart is located. One should probably look into the crime rates in the area of the store. If its in a reasonably safe area, is a 24 hour store, and there's good traffic in and out of the lot throughout the night its probably fine.

I love the part where the guy talks about taking a mini-shower in the bathroom sink. :D

I have done it in my airstream trailer and as long as stay way out there you are fine and all trailers kinda pull near each other to circle the wagons.

I only saw trailers but there were some stray cars in lot but i did not see anyone around them.

You can't always see people sleeping in their car if they put the seat all the way back in a nearly horizontal position, especially when its dark.

True...and i did not see any security or cops check the cars but they do keep tabs.

This is what I don't get. My local Superstore(not Walmart), lets big RV's stay and camp and dump their crap. Why does anyone drive 4000 miles in their $100K rig and then decide they're too tight and stay in a fucking parking lot with 50 other RVs? Yay! Let's see Alaska and camp in a parking lot!

So far Walmart is much better than the campgrounds with unruly kids running around screaming at night and drunk assholes watching TV next to a campfire...

I guess it doesn't make sense in Alaska but here in California, well Fontana, they are generally in town for the races at the Speedway and yeah they could go elsewhere but they don't. They usually get split between Vons, Ralphs and Wal-Mart.

Many of the regional and national Wal-Mart executives tour from store to store in motor coaches and park in the lots for their inspection visits.

That's bullshit. The VIPs spend about 3 minutes at each store.

But... supposedly... Walmart doesn't allow it if you're a truck driver and your truck doesn't deliver there... I've heard anyway. Shame, really... that Walmart doesn't "get" how their stock arrives...

Campgrounds around here are bitching about it and working on the city to make a bylaw against it...fuck Walmart
