No offense, but I have always been skinny as a rake. The moment I walk, I lose weight. I hate it. I should be proud of it, but feel out in Europe. Europeans like a woman with hips and weight ... I am not that kind of woman and when I walk up a hill? I swear I lose pounds. Already my clothes do not fit me after 3 months being here.

I cannot help my weight ... why do we so focus on weight? NA's focus on girls like me, bones and tits ... Europeans do not! Why the difference in perspective about women?

everyone wants the unusual. It's so difficult to walk and exercise in NA- and like you, when I (used to) live in Europe, the weight simply fell away. It takes a determined metabolism to keep the fat on, when you walk two to five miles as a matter of course!

I see so many good looking dudes here, with very overweight (NA STANDARD VIEW) babes ...it baffles me as a skinny chick - lol. I mean I have someone, but the men here only look at child bearing bodies. IN NA they look at ... well men in NA look at women differently.

I think that depends on where in E specifically that you are. It's an anything but homogenic culture, with quite diverse beauty ideals. I see the stick figure ideal celebrated quite a lot in Europe too, especially in the fashion hotspots. But generally, it seems the culture (or cultureS) is a little more allowing for different kinds of ideals here. Smaller as well as bigger.

On the other hand, I remember me and my then girlfriend (more valkyrie than waif) drinking two very nice ladies under the table one night at a bar in Tarragona three years ago. They were only slightly shorter than me, but each had the body mass of a medium sized poodle.

And those were who every man in the bar tried to come on to, more than the hourglass shaped ones around us (who I had a hard time keeping my eyes off, I might add).

Farming is the answer you're looking for. A term used quite a lot when I was young to describe a female body that was strong in thighs, hips, and shoulders and with a decent amount of subcutaneous fat was 'farmer's daughter' or 'farmer's wife'.

The US, being an invented country has never (I use the word advisedly) had the tradition of a farming ecology/economy. Add to that the cutting edge of communications in all things and the history of the world to draw upon in creating a country, they have been always led by the nose in culture.

When culture is dictated by the media (straight roads) then it is inevatably drawn towards the quickest dollar.

I think it has to do with a created ideal. One I don't adhere to, but since some of the underpinnings of America's ascetic religious roots shine through, sacrifice and beauty and all that stuff, gluttony a sin, overindulgence akin to murder, there you have it.

Fortunately not everyone's that way really, it's just the most effective marketing technique of the moment. The pendulum swings slower socially, but you can find individuals with their own thoughts.

Are you serious? You'd be perfect in the US. There are articles and TV spots all the time talking about how the US has the most overweight people in the world and that we should do something about it right now and get healthy.

Over here it's customary to read the articles (which are placed next to ads with pictures of anorexic supermodels) or watch the TV spots while eating large quantities of junk food, then turning the channel to watch anorexic actors leading glamorous lives.
