Voting vs. feedback

I'm getting the impression from comments here that votes are nice but feedback is a more reliable indicator of responses.

My second story, Pidge's Story (I'll see if I can figure out how to get a link: how 'bout this: http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=78053) has had a smattering of feedback, pretty much all good. (A couple of anonymous respondents didn't believe some items, which is frustrating because I'd have loved to have talked to them about what made it unbelievable there, but they were overall positive anyway). Yet the average vote has been steadily declining from 4.75 down to 4.15 (or lower; I don't recall what it is today).

And all of the feedback was on the first day.

I find that a little odd. Perhaps it's not a surprise that there are more negative votes--things do average out--but that there has been no feedback since the first day makes me curious. Why not? It's not an impossible statistical event...but I'm mindful that the single piece of feedback I had on the story previous to that was also on the first day.

Are the "early readers" more likely to respond? Are they generally more useful with feedback? I'd like to think that at any point a reader with keen insights could appear. :)

Nice story

Hi,

Feedback. That's so totally inconsistent that whatever anyone tells you about it will probably turn out the other way. The stories here get the most hits on the first day so that's why, out of all those people who see it on the new stories list, some write back through the feedback option. As it falls of the new stories page, the votes and feedback both decline. That's the only explanation I can think of about your phenomenon. :)

Your story was well-written and I enjoyed it immensely. You have a way of phrasing things uniquely and some of the things in there delighted me. Was too good. I loved the easy dialogue too, though at one point it seemed a little weird. ("Flies will get in." Ben shut his mouth.) Once in the middle though, I got a little confused about what's happening between the three of them, but then that may have been my problem totally. I noticed a couple of the same words quite close together too.

Keep writing. :)

I rarely if ever get feedback at Literotica after the first day or two. I believe the reason for that is mainly visibility of the story being on the "New" list. After a day or two, it tends to drop into oblivion with everything else. With no easy way to search for stories you like here (even when the search function works), someone would have to specifically seek out your stories. I get feedback at other sites months after posting a story. Those sites have well thought out search features/functions as well ... but there has been nothing like that here at Lit so far.

When you post a new story here, someone may read your other stories if they happen to click on your author page. But without an easy way to search for stories, I'm not surprised that after the first day that feedback and votes tend to cease for the most part.
