Does anyone know if the site gods have considered weighting the voting scores for best stories with the number of votes received? This would seem to provide a much more accurate score of which stories are the best.

Why should a story that has been read and voted on once, outweigh a story that has been read & voted on hundreds of times?

To the extent that when two or more stories have the same score the number of votes is the "tie-breaker" for how the stories rank -- yes they have.

As for a story with a 5.00 after ten votes being outranked by a story with a 4.99 and 500 votes, No -- the number of votes is NOT taken into account once the minimim of ten has been reached.

Natural selection (so to speak) will drop those stories that aren't worthy as the number of votes goes up. The stories with high scores after ten votes will show up in the top ten for only a short time before they reach equilibrium. Sometimes that equilibrium will earn them a (semi) permanent place in the top ten, but usually not.

If you check the top lists, you'll see that whenever there are two or more stories with the same score, the one with the most votes will be listed first. A story will only be listed on the Top Lists if it has at least 10 votes or more. As far as weighting goes, that's why we list both the score and the number of votes. With access to that information, readers themselves can weigh the stories accordingly.

When we start having contests, stories will have to garner at least 25 votes to be eligible to win. And we will take into account both score and number of votes in those cases where the scoring is close.

With sincere respect to those who have been around Literotica for awhile, i'd like to point out that for some of us, most of these topics are fresh and new and of interest. Might i ask, and i swear i'm not being sarcastic (if for no other reason than you, Madame Pandora, scare me too much at my tender newbie stage of my residency), if you're seriously suggesting that newbies like me go read the back threads before chiming in with opinions and questions?

I really do not want to irritate anyone here with pointless posts or questions that were answered last week. Personally, i have little patience with people who ask questions about stuff that's addressed on the site FAQ; here, of course, that would be in Writer's Resources. I hope i never sink to using my words inanely, just as a placeholder for my name. But i don't want to feel needlessly inhibited here, either, just because i'm new.

Is there room for newbies with questions and comments and tidbits here, in your Literotica?

Actually, yes I think she was seriously suggesting that you take advantage of the search function to find the old threads on votes and how to improve the voting system.

I don't think it is necessary for newbies to search before asking a question they can't find a recent thread about. I do find it irritating to see a new thread within a few hours of an old one though.

BTW, it isn't just newbies who don't look before asking the same old questions time and again.

The bottom line here, is post what you want, when and where you want to. Some questions will draw flames or scorn, but that comes with the territory. You should note that I simply answered your question rather than referring you to any of the other threads, because I don't recall any that specifically answered your point -- There may be one, but It was quicker to just answer now than to search for the answer.

Actually, she wasn't seriously suggesting anything. She was baiting Laurel.

As I explained to cymbidia in an email, Lit voting in general has been an issue of some hot debate - which I have entered into on several occasions. Rather than get into it all over again, I simply was going to tease Laurel a little.

And, yes, the threads ARE there for people to read, and some don't know they're there. I didn't when I first joined.

It appears that this is a hot topic indeed. My apologies for not searching into the catacombes for previous discussions on this. I am new to the group & haven't got my cave diver cert yet.
