Just wondering what percentage of voting do you get?

If you get 1% you are more than lucky. Out of over 12000 votes on a new story I got 56 votes...ack! After 7 stories I'm figuring 0.5% of readers will vote.

But hey, I can't escape that I only vote on about 1/5 stories I read, or attempt to read, usually 'back-buttoning' the bad ones. Actually the 'bad ones' are just ones that that don't follow my intrests so I refuse to give them a low score just for that. I like the voyuer or non-consent but when they drop into full sex mode in one paragraph I find it hard to believe and refuse to continue.

I do hearby promise to get my voting percentage up to %50 of stories I read!

Anybody with me?

But damn, to have 12,000 people read your work in less then a week is very cool...

Yes, the voting is very low. One of my stories received over 17,000 views - and less than 60 people voted. *sigh* Oh well. I have to admit that when I was new to Literotica, I really wasn't aware of the whole voting thing. I would read the stories, and then move on. Now that I write and contribute, I'm more aware of voting (and honestly, based on what the author had done, not a "it sucked" or "it's great" type of thing), along with sending feedback.

I think this is just a fact of the game, nothing more.

Yes, it is nice to think a story you have written attracted the attention of quite a few readers. But remember - that's the number of views, not reads. So some one may click on your story, but they might not have read it.

Still, it is cool!

Views....not reads...

right you are...

btw...i read 'Careful....' of yours. Very good!!

Vote Vote Vote!

I am careful to vote on every story that I read. If I like it, I want people to know that it is a good story, and if I dislike it I usually don't vote lower than a 3, especially if it would drag the average down too much. In one of my threads on the story ideas board, someone said that they thought mostly only authors voted, and usually out of spite. It seems to be that way (sigh)

I voted as being a 100% type.

But currently 80% of what I read is stuff from people I actually interact with on Lit. So I am voting on a friends story knowing they will likely comment on mine as well.

Of the rest, well I vote on anything that was able to get me to read it. In a lot of cases the category or the title drew me in. But I consider a vote such a minor action. An email comment is something that actually requires work.
I can't imagine why a person wouldn't vote.

Then again. I have noticed that some people get a burst of votes, that are positive, then they no longer wish voting. Because quanity will often as not reduce a score more than anything else.

I have posted on this subject before. It comes up so often. This is the "Jigs Scale" for the reason readers don't vote (reprinted from a previous posting):

1) They didn't particularly like the story, and may have never even reached the voting button at the end. If the story doesn't capture the reader’s attention, he/she is not motivated to vote.

2) They skimmed the story. It was mildly ineresting but they weren't overwhelmed. They are reluctant to give a low score because the story was OK and reasonably well written, but they didn't like it well enough to give it a high score either.

3) They vote for stories they like (4 or 5), but are reluctant to vote on the ones they don't care for. Some readers including myself are unwilling to downgrade a story just because it's a style or subject matter that doesn't fit their personal (and entirely subjective) taste.

4) They don't think it's important, and have no understanding of how the author is panting to know what they think of his/her story.

5) They lack confidence in their own opinion, and are reluctant to commit themselves. I think this is probably the most common reason people don't vote, but in fairness they may have a point. True, there are some who wouldn't commit themselves on the day of the week. Much more often I think the reader decides, "What the hell! Why ask me? Do I look like a literary critic? Anyway, I am a little embarrassed to be sitting here in the middle of the night reading dirty stories on the net."

I am sure there are other reasons as well. Perhaps we will hear of them on this thread. There are so many variables in this business of counting views and votes, and calculating scores, that I don't think anybody can say for sure what THE factor might be. Probably it is different from reader to reader. I do think, however, the number of votes a story gets is the best measure of its success. With some certainty the story caught the attention of at least that many readers.
