It's sad, petty and sort of pathetic. More so when it's being done by an author targeting another author.

I mean, seriously, how little do you have going on in your life to engage in this? Anywho, you'd sort of hope that someone participating in this would remember that you know where all the bodies are buried and you have all the receipts.

It would be nice if person A stayed in their lane while person B stayed in theirs and never shall the twain meet, but if that's not possible, maybe certain information should come to light.

Anyway, aside from waiting for sweeps, do you have any strategies for dealing with one-bombs or two-bombs?

Don't write in certain categories.

But you know that already, Bebop. Have the natives gone feral?

Laugh and ignore them. It's gonna happen regardless.

The only bombs I worry about are those dropped from airplanes. Those are truly sad, petty, and sort of pathetic. Fortunately, it hasn't happened in the United States (unless you count Pearl Harbor, which wasn't in a state yet).

How little do they have going on in their lives? Just look around.

How would you even know unless they tell you?

Regardless of how you feel about this, it's not against any rule for authors to give out 1 votes. What kind of blackmail material could you possibly have to stop someone from voting any particular way?

I'm sure we'd all love to see what kind of dirt you think you have that means anything besides interpersonal drama.

I guess it's not an airplane as such, but there was a helicopter bombing of a residential building in Philadelphia, 1985. Eleven people killed, 61 homes destroyed in the resulting fire. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1985_MOVE_bombing

Also several reports of dynamite and/or incendiaries being dropped from planes in Tulsa, 1921: https://www.history.com/news/1921-tulsa-race-massacre-planes-aerial-attack

Yes, I wonder how you know it's another author. You don't say? Presume they tell you they've one-bombed in a comment in their account name(?) That's pretty brazen.

Embrace those 1-bombs as having caught their attention! You've managed to connect with your story emotionally with that person.

I know exactly who it is. The victim is on that person's 'enemy list'.

I'm not concerned with someone giving a story a one or two because they dislike the author. I'm concerned with them doing it over and over.

Yes, true, although those probably weren't "warfare" as I'd define it. The events in Tulsa were mostly covered up from the very beginning.

Has Lit abandoned anonymous voting and I didnā€™t get the memo?

Back story - Bebop used to be fairly regular in the AH several years ago, then wandered off to join a cohort of LW writers (that how it looked, anyway). It would appear some internecine warfare has broken out.

It might be a paper in Irony 103 to bring it to the AH, though. It's all part of Educating Emily.

Well, yes, it has. WWII in Bly, Oregon. One of the bombs sent over by balloon killed six people. This in no way equates to what others around the world have suffered from bombs, but it did happen.

In reality, to my mind this is the ONLY way to do it. I've never been one for back or heel biting. If you're going to take an action, stand up and say so. Let them know from whom it comes and for what reason. Doing so from the shadows, without ever declaring yourself is a cowardly way to do things.

Whenever I've got a story in a contest or a challenge, just like the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, I can count on getting one bombed.

One story started off with fifteen fives, till I got a one bomb.

On the rare occasion that it doesn't happen, I actually wonder if my bomber is okay, or if something has happened to them.

I just roll with it. They can only bomb me so many times, and if the story is meant to rise from the ashes, it will.
