You know those studies where a bunch of poor college students get paid $50 to be lab rats for some psychology experiment? Like the classic one where they made a “prison” and assigned some students to be prisoners and some to be guards and watched what happened over time? Or the one where they had a person strapped into a chair with (fake) electrodes and had someone keep turning up the dial to zap the person (who was actually an actor pretending to be shocked and in pain when in fact it was always a very mild electrical shock)?

With all that power on the part of the experimenters, and willingness to do strange things for a study on the part of the subjects (and liability waivers)… what are some experiments that might start out “innocent”, but, halfway through, have to be cancelled because they’ve gotten out of hand sexually?

In the prison one, the guards started abusing their power and becoming cruel*. What if, the experiment had continued (or maybe wasn’t being monitored… they were locked in with time locks?) and the cruelty started to become sexual. Or prisoners started offering sexual favors for special treatment.

Or, in the pain one, the grad student can’t help but notice how flushed the young woman gets as he tightens one strap after the next. At the end of the day the subjects have left and he heads in to unstrap her and notices the pool of wetness in her chair. He teases her about being turned on by the leather straps and adjust & tightens them instead of loosening them. She denies it at first, but, finally admits, the only thing she was disappointed about was that the “safe” electrical shocks were so weak.

Maybe it was the intent/kink of the professor or grad student from the start… designing the experiment to create some sexual tension as a side effect?

Maybe it was unexpected behavior that just emerged. Maybe it was just the result of an experiment confining people to close quarters. Having people replicate ape behavior to see how it affects them, including close contact “grooming” behaviors?

Or maybe the experiment has some actual sexual component to it? Like the test subjects are actual dating couples and the experiment is to measure their brainwaves when they experience jealousy to find what parts of the brain light up.

So… can you think of other setups that might lead to nautiness? I especially like when “innocent” well-intentioned women find themselves unexpectedly or unavoidably in a situation that turns them on and starts to tempt them.

* my understanding is that both those classic experiments turned out to be highly flawed

Nice idea :)

There's a whole range of possibilities for this setup - those kind of studies are sometimes a little weird even in reality. So a story could be based on:
  • Subjects test out moisturising cream that turns out to have the unexpected side-effect of making them very horny (might have been a hidden test for a 'viagra for women' drug)
  • Subjects are asked to view a series of short clips while their physiological reactions to them are measured. Maybe one of the students reacts unexpectedly to pictures of restraints? Or someone has messed with the clips and added porn clips in there?
  • Subject tries out alternative to weighted blankets for sleeping. It's a device that locks them in place for the night. The subject is observed over night by organizer of the experiment who might notice that the subject reacts overly positively to him and/or the setup
  • Subjects are given accupuncture and then asked to masturbate (in a private room). They are told they will need to fill in a survey afterwards. Maybe the room has a hidden peep-hole for the organizer to observe through, or one of the subjects get so loud they have to check on her..
Options aplenty - and any of the above can be further twisted by adding in some bisexual curiousity/experimentation that the subjects were not aware they wanted.

I like the “viagra for women” test. For scientific purposes it would have to be a double blind study. Even better if the participants don’t know what the intended effect is at all. But, the drug works… so half the participants are horny and don’t know why. Some student involved in the study might peek to see who’s getting the real drug… and… find a way to cross paths with some of the more attractive participants, figuring their odds of getting laid have just gone up.

And, maybe some or all participants agree to spend a weekend or two in isolation for study. They can read, watch movies, whatever, but, their vital signs are monitored all the time. Those on the drug are crawling the walls horny. They choose sexy movies to watch, which makes them even hornier. They can’t masterbate because they know there are cameras recording all the time.

But, the helpful grad student who got weekend duty is there to get them whatever they need. He toys with them, offering up sexy movies for entertainment, knowing he’s shooting “fish in a barrel.

He makes a point of turning off the cameras during their twice-a-day survey where he asks questions about how they are doing and if they need anything… anything at all… that, with the cameras off, this is their opportunity to ask for anything they feel they need...

The main problem with that one is that it's not so original. The intentional or unintentional 'drug that makes people horny'-story has been done many many time before. You'd have to think of some twists to make it interesting

I also like the weighted blanket alternative. You could also just do a VERY heavy weighted blanket maybe. But, I like that it’s, on the surface, totally innocent. But, the study subject has a bondage kink she’s trying not to admit… and… the researcher notices. The vital sign readings are very clear. And, he starts to invent some new procedures for the study… like manually inspecting the blanket and straps to make sure they are secure… and tightening them periodically. And, modifying the survey to include some additional questions like...

“How do you feel? Would you describe it as cozy? Warm? Comfortable? Helpless? Trapped? Vulnerable if someone came along and took advantage of your helplessness? Are you more worried about someone hurting you… or taking advantage sexually? Your vital signs seem to indicate you’re aroused. Is that accurate? For scientific reasons, I need to ask why. Are you having sexual thoughts unrelated to the experiment? Are you having sexual thoughts related to your helpless situation? Are you scared I might take advantage of you? Are you scared I might NOT? Are you scare I or someone else might touch you? Kiss you? Fuck you?"

Agreed, there could be a story there.
Let me me know when you post it :)

What other research scenarios would have a reason to bind/strap/restrain the subject?

Something where you’re studying the brain and want to reduce the “noise” from the body movements? Like studying if imagining motion creates the same brainwaves as DOING the motion. So, the body need to be restrained to reduce even subtle body motions during the “imagine” phase.

Or… maybe a study on the effect of various kinds of helplessness? Some experiments present you with situations where you’re mentally unable to figure out a puzzle in time to prevent some pain or miss out on some reward. Others present you with situations where you are physically unable… because you are restrained.

Or… something vision related where they can’t have your head move at all… so your head need to be strapped to the chair… and to reduce the vibrations related to other movement… your arms and legs and torso need to be strapped as well.

Or… maybe, like the eletro shock experiment, it’s framed as “You’re not really the subject… the other person is. We want to see how they respond to a beautiful young girl in danger. We’re going to start with you strapped helplessly to this chair and exposed to increasingly threatening situations (all simulated of course)” She thinks the test is really for the observer… watching her experience everything from minor annoyances... to pain… to a test subject watching her be sexually taken advantage of. She’s told the more realistic it is, the better. She starts taking pride in opting into “real” vs. “simulated”… you know… for the sake of science… and because she’s getting sopping wet.

Seems like you have plenty of ideas already - now you just need to do the hard part and actually write them :)

I briefly had an idea to make an Erotic version of Anne Hathaway's Ella Enchanted, by having it be a modern-day college student named Ellen taking part in a social experiment where she's "hypnotized." Long story short, the experiment would have backfired, and instead of being part of the controlled part of the experiment, she got a full blast of hypnosis and turned into a free-use lab rat. Ultimately, I was unwilling to write it and get it rejected on the grounds that it's based on an adaptation of a fairy tale, and thus the Lit Gods might object to the original source material.

I’m unfamiliar with that movie, but just googled it. Anne Hathaway is irresistable. How could anyone make a movie about her being magically obedient and NOT have it turn out erotic? :)

Yes, a stufy of hypnosis could be interesting. Most/many students seem to be mostly not susceptible. But some, are more susceptible. One, a beautiful Ann Hathaway look-alike, is VERY susceptible. And our grad student is smitten and tries not to take advantage when she’s under hypnosis… but… it’s so hard. But, he decides it’s not SO bad to give her a few hypnotic suggestions for when she’s not under… a few things like… a word that, whenever she hears it, she feels a tingle “down there” and gets wet...

The studies from my university days were absolutely crazy at times. It was a nice way to pass the time and get some money. For the uninitiated: most ideas here are actually possible.

As an example, once I was at a study where they wanted to know the effects of alcohol on appetite. 150,- to drink beer and then eat cake. Show up on 3 separate occasions where at random one was a control day and you only ate cake. Best 3 times 3 hours of my life, if I hadn't been rejected on day one for being too lightweight.

There were studies about gambling. Studies for drugs. Some studies required you to be at a single place for a week or month where a drug was tested, or the changes in an arm that couldn't be moved anymore. I never attended these longer studies. I see they payed very well, and from a friend who participated a few times I heard that with little to do it can become horny town in a few days. As far as I know only one time something truly happened, which in most cases is a big no no, but the sparks flew if I believe the stories.

The possibilities are pretty endless.

How about a study into the ego? People need to gamble. It was advertised as being unbeatable, so only people who can break the game should apply. They know the games are rigged, yet think they can win anyway. The organisers expect things like bribery and cheating. However, sexuality is quickly used to get more chips, or to support a bet. A bet without consequences would mean that the study generates incorrect data, so all bets must be honoured.

As an alternative, the change in skin tone after drinking. A late night study with a lovely person leads to attractive flushes...

Iirc they still don't know how the orgasm reflex of the man exactly works. They try to find candidates as well as "stimulation assistants" for the MRI.
