Anelize has decided to leave her position as librarian for our community.

Is anyone interested in the position of BDSM librarian?

I think of our resident Dom/mes ought to be able to roust out a few 'volunteers' if they try hard enough.

(Actually, it's not that difficult a task. Gives you an excuse to be at lit even when there's nothing that you particularly want to say. Also gives you street cred when you're trying to prove that you're wayyy smarter than everybody else.)

Hi. This is the wife again. I wouldnt mind giving it a try. If ya dont have someone already just let me know :)

Can we nominate other people? If so, I nominate FungiUg. He's all over this place all the time anyway -- all he'd have to do is catalog his wanderings.

Sure, you can.

:)

Now, if FungiUg is interested, I would ask that he post or pm me.

Read through old threads and new ones so that you have an idea what they're about (some of the thread titles are deceiving!), then post links to them in the Library thread (just by editing the existing posts there) under the appropriate subject headings.

Two other names for the hat:

s'lara has given a definite yes, she would love it;
sunfox, has indicated she is thinking about it.

I am sure at this rate Miss Taken and I will have a difficult time deciding. It is wonderful to have a community which is so willing to be involved with the fun as well as the work. Thanks, and anyone else interested, please post your name here to be on the list.

Catalina :)

Wow, Nemo, thanks for alllll your help here.

I am still around.

Contrary to popular belief the Librarian job does take a fair amount of work. Work as in time. Nemo is correct in that the basic part of the job is simply editing the existing Library categories and adding threads. Where the work comes in is this--I read every thread, and make a decision about whether or not it's "Library Material". That's not easy sometimes. There is no set "criteria" for adding threads, it's something that's evolved over time, and is in my head. I'm going to try and write it down.

There are things that will keep a perfectly good BDSM thread out of the library, you see.

Extended flaming.

Extended flirting.

When the crap outweighs the info, why bother adding the thread?

I watch threads evolve over time so I can possibly add them at a later date, when they have more of a response base, and keep detailed notes of what I've added so I don't duplicate additions.

I'll be happy to go over all of this with whoever takes on the job, through IMs.

Thank you, anelize.

Your post is very helpful.

I guess it hadn't occured to me that threads with too much flaming would be an issue for the library. We could, when the librarian is wanting to move a thread, remove the flaming posts and place the thread in teh library, with the thread starter's permission. It is an option to consider in the future. Perhaps, we should explore this with the forum.

I like that idea Miss Taken. I have noticed alot of informative threads get way sidetracked sometimes, but that doesnt mean the rest of the content isnt library worthy....i know if it were my thread i wouldnt mind it being edited and the good info used.

Hmmm. While I would love to see more threads in the library, I don't think it's the right of the thread owner to decide to censor the thread for the library. At least the threads are in their intact form out on the Board to be searched for if you get my meaning.

I don't believe I'm exorcising censorship when I decide not to put a thread in the Library. I'm not taking away anyone's right to free speech, I'm just not including the whole THREAD, in a collection of thread that is separate from the Board as a whole. However, when you start deleting posts from a thread that is active on the Board, aren't you taking away the flamer's free speech?

I'm not up on all this first amendment stuff, but hey....food for thought.

Out of curiosity, how will this be accomplished? Presumably only Anelize currently can edit the threads.

Actually, I think a moderator is the only person who can edit a thread and do that kind of deletion, Etoile.

I don't have those magical powers. I just do some linking and editing of the Library threads alone.

The problem I see with how we have set the library up is that Anelize is the only one (other than a moderator) who can edit the library. They are her posts with her username.

How is it going to work for another person to edit the library? Is this person going to have to set everything up again with their user name??

Wouldn't it be easier to set up a BDSM librarian account, use that account to post the library and then the password could be changed when the librarian becomes someone else?

It would be an honor. Good luck to those interested in taking on a job that was done so well by Anelize.

You are right morninggirl5. I have done as you suggested, and will begin the work necessary to transfer the threads over as soon as possible. Thanks for drawing our attention to something so important and obvious we didn't think of it in all the deciding process about a new librarian.

Hm, I always kept the flamewars intact and catalogued. I think it's neat to go back and find "the way we were" honestly, without airbrushing and retouching. And there's the "Forum" category for threads that are entirely personal in nature.

Anelize is a lady of high standards!

Heh, this is what I was referring to, as well. Sorry if I wasn't clear about what I meant.

Hey...

I pmed MissT last night to say I would be happy to volunteer. I think any of the other people listed would do a great job as well.

I think it would be great to have the opportunity to contribute to the forum in such a positive manner.:)
