Voiced Poetry thread

oh wow! i have just got to listen to 3 of the four files sent to me; the other needs to be in a different format before i can open it since my windows media player is bleuch (my windows copy doesn't validate, apparently ).

sooo, anyone else thinking of sending me files, could you please make them wav or mp3 files as i can open both of these. thanks again.

AND and and and, admittedly i was listening with earpieces that had only one earpiece still there, but it was such fun hearing you guys! Annie sounds dead posh; Mr Fool sounds all sexy an accented; and Charley sounds ... growly laughy! :D

lol - my mic is in my computer. I tried, desperately tried, to hook in an external mic to record, but nothing happened. Anyhow, it's funny you should say this because despite the sound of a voice that likely goes from soft to hard (me saying a line, moving back from computer to read the next while saying it and moving close again), I had three recorded versions of your poem, the shape of the thing.

My first instinct was to go with a soft voice throughout, until the lines

as they burn the heretics -
over and over
which i read with a viciously psychotic anger (and a scowl on my face). However, it really didn't work that well with the softness of how I read the first part.

My second version consisted of alternating between a soft, sane voice on one line and one that was almost crazed on the next until the end. I simply didn't like it.

In the version I gave you, I was going for a pyromaniac's response to the shape of the thing... semi-sensual without being sensual and yet gleefully crazed with an nondescript pleasure as they burn the heretics, over and over. (Funny, I didn't intentionally laugh when I said those last lines, I simply smiled as I read them and the chuckle came from that, it just followed).

In any case, I'm interested in how others read your poem. It's too bad we can't just upload them on the thread. :)

Don't be too sure, m'dear:

I'd certainly be curious to hear more or less any of my poems read by someone else. I might especially like to hear some of my "girly" (Minervous) poems read by someone female.

Can't do that myself, y'know.
I'd be happy and honoured to read any of your poems. Tzara. I read my own poems well, but I know that each poet has a preconceived notion of how their poem should be read (Chippy and Fool!) lol -joking- :rose:, you two are are wonderful for letting me interpret your poetry.

I'd enjoy working with you to voice one of your poems, but rather than just reading one of your poems, I'd prefer to work with you on how to read it from your ears. :)

you went to so much trouble! for my little poem. i feel abashed
if it's okay with Foolio and Annie and Tzara, i could forward the files to you via e-mail?

If you're using Windows, you might need to enable Mic input. I've had to do that before.

No, I don't remember what I did, nor what version of Windows I was running. I just remember at one time I had to turn on Mic input. In some version. Some time.

I know. Helps a lot.

Try Googling "mic input {windows version}" and see if that helps.

If you want to say what version of Windows you're running, I could look around. I have systems running 98, XP, Vista, and 7, so I might be able to figure that out.

Though not in Portuguese. ;)

Well, what I would want, at least initially, is how you would read it, without any input from me. I have my own conception of how I think each poem sounds, of course, but what would interest me about this exercise would be hearing how someone else would read my words without specific cues from me.

That tells me things about my execution, about how I punctuated the poem, about whether I have any effin' clue that people are reading me how I think I want them too.

And it wouldn't matter if you were way different from what I thought. I'm just curious as to what my poems sound like to other people, since their sound is important to me.

I'll go look around and suggest a couple poems. If you figure out some way to post them here, I would welcome that--otherwise, I'll PM you my email.

The odd thing is that I am recording software demos right now for my company. While I am not crazy about my voice (no one is, for the most part, just like no one usually likes their name), it's OK. It's mine, anyway, and I sound like me.

Yes, I know that is a tautology.

If anyone else wants to volunteer to read me, let me know. I would appreciate it, but certainly don't expect it.

Needless to say, if anyone would like me to try and read one or two of their poems and send them the audio file, I would be happy to do that. Just be aware that my narration is more Milton Freidman than Morgan Freeman.

I'm willing to read anybody's poetry (it's the show off in me) as long as it's not too long because if I stumble I have to start all over again! Be interesting to hear someone read mine too but would need to be sent as a wav or mp3, I've just this minute written something but it's a bit morbid lol or choose anything from the various titles in the list

bet you've got a sexy accent Tz :D

I have (I think) a very American accent, which judging from Brit actors doing 'merican characters would sound really, really flat to you. Monotonal.

Well, other than the content of the text, which could be, um, pretty sprightly.

Sense trumps sound, y'know.

I think.

As I said, PM me something that points at the poem you'd like read, and I'll send you an MP3.

You won't like it, though. Just warnin'. :)

Is there any way we lesser mortals can tune in and have a listen? :D
I don't have a problem with cb sending you my recording. Or I can send it or something else directly to you. I need an email address, though.

Warning: My voice is not "hot," despite Annie's overwrought comment. :)
