Voice Request

you can actually read and understand OE?

no, finnish isn't really related to OE. OE is a germanic language and germanic languages have descended from proto-indo-european. finnish is a uralic language derived from proto-uralic. some linguists have suggested a relationship between indo-european and uralic languages, though, but even if that's the case, OE and finnish would be like each other's 23th cousin 17 times removed.

I can, yes, though since I studied it at university several years ago I am pretty rusty. It always amused me when students would feebly describe Shakespeare as 'Old English'. A little Beowulf would usually put their comprehension problems in context.

And Finnish is fascinating in its relatively empty family tree, isn't it? Though not quite as wonderfully mysterious as Basque. Isolates are always the one thing that brings out the weird ancient conspiracy theorist in me - that, and walking around Santorini and thinking, 'Yes, this really was Atlantis'.

Thanks for the poem - I'm away for a few days, but might have a go at it next week.

"Rabies but lullabies ..."

btw, i know it's pretty long, but could someone read this?

:D

starts pretty easy but gets trickier (i'm not an english native speaker)

Jumpin' Jehoshaphat ... That is a monster of a masterpiece.
I tried it once and got stuck at Terpsichore.
I skim read most of the way, thought 'alright I can do this.' Then got stuck again much further in; learned some things; guessed a few based on the couplet; got more flat-out wrong; and ran out of steam around the 10 minute mark at "Gaelic, Arabic, pacific"

Thank you for sharing the poem, regardless. I laughed, I cried - 5 stars.

I gave it a shot, slipped a few times, but mostly muddled through. Very tough, and what you hear is my first time reading it so I know I got a bit of the words completely wrong. Oh well.... ;)

I had fun.
One day I'll learn it all.
And then be able to spit it out machine-gun-rapid-fire at parties and sitting alone on the bus and such ...

hahaha, yeah i've heard "old english? like.... shakespeare????" more than once. and showing people an old english text usually gets me a "fuuuck, what's that?!" :D

Forgot I'm supposed to request! Ummmm

I want someone to tell their friends that they want to marry Dr. Phil. On Jerry Springer. And make it sound believable. ;)

Bump!!!

Scratch that last one, too silly.

I want to hear someone talk about their first car and the first date they had in it.

http://vocaroo.com/i/s10KnMeT41s6 I sound like crap but here ya go, murmurmara.

As for a new request, I'd love to hear about something your passionate about- something other than sex. :p Tell us why it moves you, why you're so enraptured by it.

I enjoyed your voice, and your accent, TD. I don't have tattoos, but I've noticed that those who do, usually have stories, and I liked hearing yours. You're a woman after my own heart, m'lady... with references to Celtic Tree of Life and a Greenman face... with a hint of autumn, yet.

How interesting that you hurt your foot just before you were to have the apprentice work on one of them... did you see it as a sign? Perhaps your body was putting a halt to something for which you were feeling resistance, but holding yourself to a standard of Not Backing Out. Interesting, indeed. I look forward to hearing how it unfolded.

GREAT request! I wish Everyone would answer than one... goodness I'm building quite a long list of requests I want to respond to.

Just for you, and because you took on mine.

well, I guess I'd better post it here then!

For some time now, I've been tugged to answer RawHumor's request:

Tell us the first time that you were certain of your sexuality [hetero, bi, gay, other]. How old were you and what made it memorable?

https://soundcloud.com/murmurmara/threesome-became-a-fivesome/s-eO4pL

my request:

Please tell us about something you studied in the past that maintained a hold on your interest to this day.
