Visual Orgasms

I have an absolutely bizarre side effect to my orgasms, and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or know which cross-wires in the brain cause this.

Sometimes when I climax, I can "see" images that have nothing to do with the situation at hand. Once I saw an entire room upholstered in grey flannel. My most intense orgasm ever was accompanied by dozens of bright orange enamel teapots. I don't own any grey flannel, and my teapot is silver, so the images are not familiar before they pop in my head. That reminds me - the images don't take over my field of vision, it's more a distinct awareness of the object or image. I've never taken any hallucinatory drugs, and these visual orgasms didn't start until a few years ago (since I've been in my current monogamous relationship).

I'm not complaining in the least, I'm merely curious if I'm really off in my own field on this, or if others have experienced this as well.

Finally a response! But since I would apparently make good story material, I guess I am alone in this trait...

I can only think of two things. It's possible that on these ocassions, you're in what's called a "sex trance," and what's floating through your head is the same weird garbage that flows through our stranger dreams - whatever is in your subconcious at that moment.

There's info on the web about sex trance, but you could start here: http://www.umkc.edu/sites/hsw/Sexresponse/trance.html

The other: are you taking *any* drugs, particularly a serotonergic (a type of anti-depressant) medication?

No drugs, other than the occasional Excedrin. The sex trance is a thought. I'll look into that. Thanks.

Sorry...

It's not going to set the world on fire, but it was the only thing I could think of. And I did actually ponder this for a few days... it's pretty interesting! :)

You probably aren't alone, but you aren't in the majority either.

Like DarlingBri, I've pondered possibilities since you first posted and couldn't come up with anything concrete.

One question that did come to mind was "could this be a symptom of some hidden condition that needs medical attention?"

You are essentially hallucinating when you orgasm. Hallucinations are one of the symptoms of anoxia -- a lack of oxygen to the brain. If you hold your breath during a long orgasm, or hyperventilate during sex, then that might explain it.

If you have similar experiences with other forms of strenuous exercise, it might be worth seeing a doctor. If it only happens when you're having sex, then it's probably nothing to worry about.

You could always use the possibility that the orgasm is so intense your having some sort of telepathic connection. Of course, the question then would still be...why the flannel?
Snuggles you tight!
