Just wondering...

Have any of you authors recieved Computer Viruses from the morally outraged, would be censors out there?

I have -- 4 -- all failed of course

I get a mailbox full of viruses every day. I forget the name of the 40K virus, but I got around 1 of those a day.

This Klez thing is a bastard. The size is just over 100K and I'm getting around 5 a day. I can't go more than 2 days without emptying my inbox or it will fill up.

My Warning

I tried to set up a Literotic.org e-mail account. Part of the sign up asked me to supply a prior Address. Unfortuanately I put in my hotmail.com account as asked.

First, the Lit.org account was no good. I found the Welcome email in the Inbox. But after repeatedly trying, I couldn't send or receive e-mail from there. :p

Second. IMMEDIATELY I began getting something evil 2~3 times a day in my hotmail. acct, plus the first junk mail ever. I have never surfed from the hotmail account I use for this site's feeback.

The Likely virus e-mail I got all had a so called .txt file of 120~140k attacked. The Subject Line started with IE 6.0 Patches Attached. Each one had a different sneaky subject. I never tried to open one, so I can't prove its a virus. Anyone wanting one, just ask. I saved a sample for future reference.:p

I do have a least one cyber terrorist that has been constantly trying to annoy me. If you're interested, browse thru a thread in Author's hang out entitled Stupid Human Tricks. I get anon hate Feedback from the coward everytime I post a new story.

Larry

:D

The literotica mail acct sucks. First, it loses messages both to and from. Then, by signing up, your other mail account that you list gets spammed to death with porn stuff.

Maybe the literotica mail account is a virus too!

Jeeezzz, that is a lot of viruses. I would change my email account, if I was getting that many viruses.
I may get one every few months, but mostly just the Snow White virus.
Watch, now I will get lots!

Wm_Sexspear, I would be interested in seeing that message, if you want to send it to me. I will probably PM you and let you know how I want to do this. That is, if you still want to send it.

I have always been interested in viruses. I have taken it to an amature science status. I actually have a few viruses saved on floppy, so be nice to me. LOL

Is it always a Lit email that is involved in the virus thing, or do some get viruses even if they don't have the Lit address? I mean viruses that can be traced back to Lit, the forums, or feedback, etc.

I wonder if I just confused people with that last paragraph.

DVS, I'd be happy to forward one on to you. Today's was titled HELP, The Subject was DARLING. The next 2, today, have different From's, but are titled Worm Klez.E immunity.

1) I never used my Literotica.com e-mail. I tried, but it would not send to OR receive from my hotmail account. Since they and some junk mail began to arrive immediately after I tried to sign up for the Literotica.org account.... draw you own conclusons. I was suspicious when they asked for my previous account, now I know better. I'll never supply info like that again.

2) I was unable to cancel the Lit.org e-mail account. I wrote an e-mail asking that it be deleted, along with describing the problems it created for me. I never heard a word back. I have never accessed the account since.

I'd like to know if anyone else gets these virus e-mails. See description on my earlier post.

;)

an interesting thread.

sorry i've been away and missed the thread.

i have no lit.com email address. i use a specific hotmail address purposely set up for lit email feedback etc.

i also have a personal hotmail address together with two personal yahoo addresses (the reasons for having 4 email addresses are varied, but that i like to store my draft stories offline is one reason).

i received about a month ago an email into my hotmail (lit.com) from someone called 'wydenlong@hotmail.com'. the re said 'congratulations', the email size was just over 100k. when i opened the email, there was absolutely nothing in the contents of the email, also no attachment.

i answered the email, assuming it was feedback, saying thanks but what specifically were the congratulations for. i received no reply.

two weeks after, i received two emails in one of my yahoo email accounts. it may have been the email account i used when i registered on lit.com, i can't remember. there is one old reference in my hotmail account which refers to this particular yahoo account.

the first was from 'nanaw@att.net' with a re of 'congratulations', a size of 122k and nothing attached or inside the email.

the second was from 'pacecopeland@hotmail.com' with a re of 'Re:wildsweetone, sos!', a size of 120k, and nothing attached or inside the email.

having figured i'd just been hit with some weird kind of virus, i asked DVS to check it out for me. nothing was found. we are both assuming it was a way for spam to enter into the accounts.

i have since been receiving spam from '@funpages.com' when previously i thought i'd finally got rid of them. so it's either a coincidence or i'm still waiting for the grande finale to hit me.

meanwhile, i am AWARE and WARY rofl

thanks for your help DVS, it's very much appreciated. :)

I stand corrected. I haven't been opening them lately. There is no longer a .txt attached. There is some other sneaky stuff which I won't discuss in a public forum since there are cyber-terrorists stalking these posting. .:p

Since these viruses only started when I gave my addr to the Literotica, I consider them the source and the problem. Why in God's name did they ask for my former e-mail address?

But something is casuing them to run from 120~160k. Some come with blank messages, some don't.

I am being stalked by a cyber-terrorist who would if he could. I've been threathened for posting in here, and my stories get 1-vote attacked daily. So unless I get hear from an addr I know for sure, I flush it. That is also why I chose an offline e-mail account like hotmail.

It's just amazing to me that these self righteous bozos can't comprehend how immorally THEY are behaving.

If I could, I would want to ask them one simple question --

What is more immoral -- writing a story about a sexual fantasy OR sending someone a malicious computer virus with the specific intent or destroying or vandalizing that persons private property?

Here's another question --

Which one of these activities is completely legal and which one is in fact completely illegal?

How are people sending you viruses? Is your email address published? That isn't good, if it is. But, it is good that they are failing. I would be curious to know the name of the virus and how it is being sent to you.
I agree with you, that it is very nasty of them, if it is on purpose. But, keep in mind that it is possible the person doesn't even know they have a virus and it is the virus sending itself to you. That is how most virsuses travel. I am not saying you are not correct about being sent this virus on purpose, but just wanted to clarify that point. Once your email address is in someone's address book, and their computer is infected, you could continually receive the virus from that computer.
Keep a watchful eye. Sounds like you are.

I have never received an E-mail to my Literotica Mail Account, not even the E-mail I sent from my Lit Composer to my Lit Mail Addy. That seems strange, as I have been able to receive mail at other 'BigMailBox.Com" Accounts.

My experience matches Wm_Sexspear & Couture, except that I ‘receive' no viruses.

My IPS has invested heavily into spam & virus blocking. In fact, I go through the trash every week, (averaging 200 undelivered emails) looking for legitimate titles that may have been dumped by mistake. (About one a week, usually from a new sender.)

If a virus gets past my IPS, I have an always updated copy of Norton 2002 inside with its teeth bared.

I bypass the Lit Addy; but once in a while, I look inside, just in case. In the last year, I have received no Lit Newsletters although it says I am already a member, if I try to sign up, again! (The last one I received was From: Art, at ESC.) No correspondence, and one piece of spam about ‘Celebrity News'. (Same copy in all my BigMailBox.com mailboxes)

It's a fairly simple problem to work around.

But until I heard others carping about it, I thought I was the only one.

That no one wished to talk to me. Not even to tell me how lousy my story was!

Quasi.
