Hey everybody.. I have a question for you.. I do I do...

Question:
What is the fastest way to spread a Virus??

Answer:
Send it in an Email labled "Virus Warnig" or somthing similar.

People attach the virus to these messages and then send to people. The messages usually explain wht the Virus is and how people can get them by telling them about the virus.. what people don't know is that people don't know that they are sending them to their freinds and spreading the Virus around in the "Warrnings". My advice is if you get a warning, regardless of who sent it to you just delete it and forget about it.. it is not worth the headache of getting and having a virus..

and PLEASE DO NOT SEND OUT VIRUS WARRNIGS, they may have the a Virus attached to them..

E

My understanding is that you MUST open an attachment to spread a virus...Weird Harold? You know the answer...

I send out mass mailings of the NAMES of the viruses, but never the virus itself to my contacts. I do not copy/paste or forward off of virus attached mail. I write them onto paper and then type them into the mail, as if I were writing you a letter. If you ever receive something from me about viruses, rest assured, it does not have a virus attached to it...I am not a moron.

Didn't mean to kick your teeth in and pull out your tonsils, I just ignore all those *VIRUS WARNING* thingies. I figure if it is a big deal like Melissa, other sources besides forwards will warn me about it long long before it hits me. Besides to get a virus you do have to open an attachment, and I don't do that even if I do know the person.

Ezzy already answered this -- sort of.

In most cases, a program containing a virus must be executed for the virus to infect your computer. "Viruses" like the KAK worm are actually worm programs rather than actual 'viruses'.

The distinction is really rather meaningless. Worms and viruses both can damage your data.

If your mail program can process HTML code in a message, it is NOT necessary to open an attachment to be infected. An HTML routine can be hidden in an E-Mail that will run the virus, tap into your address book, and send the virus on to all of your friends.

Users of Microsoft Outlook are most vulnerable to this method of spreading viruses, because it is the most common E-Mail program in use. The KAK worm spreads by adding the activating HTML code the signature block in Outlook. It seems logical that other viruses would do something similar.

There are a lot of malicious JAVA scripts floating about as well. Using a virus protection program that includes realtime virus checking and online "web-trapping" of malicious stuff coming from the web or your e-mail.

I use PC-Cillin from Trend Microsystems. It seems to be more thorough than Norton or MacAfee from what I can tell. Of course, the fact that it came free with my motherboard has a lot to do with me using it.
