Virgins

You don't see many deflowering-of-virgins stories any more. This used to be an erotic staple, a standard theme, but off hand I can't remember the last time I saw a deflowering story. Not that it bothers me. Peronally, I have always thought virgins were over rated, both in fiction and in real life. In real life, the first time is overly emotional, awkward and the sex is usually bad because she's a beginner. In fiction, virgins don't have enough of a history to be interesting, in my opinion.

But is this a trend in porn? Have we come to the end of the virgin story?

Premise...Young, innocent virgin gets it on with well hung guy. There is initial pain and within moments she becomes a wild sex goddess begging for more.

Now maybe this happens but in my case it was the painful experience that dr_m mentions. It continued to be painful for the first few months. My first time was almost traumatic to me, but then I'm a drama queen...

I never read them..too unrealistic, unlike other stories on Lit...

i don't remember screaming that though jen, all i remember was it was all over in about 20 seconds and i wondered what the fuss was all about (hasn't changed much in that way either)

I think in this case it may be more due to the age limitations on lit than due to a slowing down of the story type. You can ask readers to believe a lot, but in this day and age an 18 year old virgin is a hard sell.

I think it could still be done, but the key is what the pair get out of it; how it is motivated and whether it satisfies their expectations, calms fears or increases them and so forth. Character development would be paramount.

I draw a distinction between erotica and porn, always have and always will. Calling everything porn is just resignation to a current fashion. It isn't progress in literary terms. A good story about deflowering I think would usually demand an erotic treatment rather than pornographic, then I suspect it would not only be possible, but also have both intrinsic and commercial value. Writing it as porn would actually be much harder (ironic that).

Some of us are jaded and almost all of us like to pretend we are sometimes, but in reality even the most jaded people like to experience some genuine passion in their romantic or sex life. We may not want strings, but we want to "love the one we're with" as the old song preached. A good deflowering demands more than an insatiable virgin and a big woody. Her emotional needs must also be met, and the owner of the woody must rediscover his own (her own, if it's a strap-on story) innocence and become vulnerable again, assuming the deflowerer is experienced. If both are inexperienced, they will both have emotional mountains to conquer. Niether has to lower themselves to the other's level of innocence and understanding, because they're both green as garden peas.

In other words, I think it's the pychological side of the characters that would make it interesting. Describing the phsyical act from either charcater's point of view is just putting the icing on the entertaining cake. Having said all that, I'll happily leave it to Doc to contemplate writing for now. It's not high on my list of writing priorities, that's for sure. (ADDON EDIT - AFTERTHOUGHT) To be honest, however, in real life I wouldn't say 'no' to a nice 18-year-old on her first adventure. Kevin Spacey's character in American Beauty, who suddenly got an attack of the morals just before entering the virgin, left me cold. It ruined the movie. I was glad when the nutcase next door shot the useless twit. The girl should have leaned over to the bedside table, found a gun and shot him herself.

Agreed. I wrote one not long ago, and although (or because) it had all those less beliveable clichés and then some, it got a ridiculous abount of reads compared to my other stories. It was almost embarrassing.

Quite a few of my stories include first time, but first time whilst in the throes of passion so there isn't much scope for angst or development. Or doesn't anal sex count as virgin territory? I'm sure it must be just as daunting as first time vaginal sex for lots of people.

I've read a few from the First Time category which appeared on the Story Feedback thread and based on that, they could as well be submitted in the Romance category. There's no pain, no tension, no uncertainty, nothing negative. It's all one mushy feel-good story.

I was the Opener of the Way with a few virgins, and the sordid truth is that if they hadn't told me, I probably wouldn't have known. All of these happened when I was younger, and in the eagerness of youth I never noticed any significant resistance from the hymen. And as for the blood, well, you never know with women...

I lost my virginity to an older woman (I was a junior; she was a senior in high school. You know how significant that seems when you're that age) and I assumed that she was more experienced. It was only a matter of months ago that I found her again on the web and learned that she'd been a virgin as well. Thank God I never mentioned the fact that I hadn't known.

Yep. There is territory to yet be covered, but it seems the readers are prone to get a little pissy if you have an unusual first time story.

e.g. - Chris. The story of a young, virgin male exploring his sexuality with an older lover. Did I mention that his lover is a ........ MAN? Although this story has one of the hottest blow job scenes I've produced it has the lowest ratings. I guess the homophobic reader doesn't like being tricked that way
