I think a good thing to remember especially in a story like this is that sex isn't always only about sex. I like what flicka brought up about insecurity and fumbling. A good virgin story should take into account other aspects of the relationship. (do they have something to prove? do they feel 100% ready? what are the social and relationship pressures involved? It can be awkward and still romantic, and by the same token, maybe its not romantic at all- yet not horrible either. Seems like there's a lot of room for variety here. (And it just seems to me that if somebody's not going to act like a virgin, there's not much of a point in them being one.) But what does acting like a virgin mean? Every first time is unique. This is a good categorie for character development. Who are these two people and what makes them unique? What draws them together? What pulls them apart? What's kept them chaste for this long? What fears or apprehensions do they have entering into this?
