Now that I have your attention...

What's with the two kinds of profiles? Each message has a 'profile' icon, which gets me to a profile page for the poster. Entirely separate from that (?), there's a 'Members Profiles' section, on the Story & Pics page. There doesn't seem to be any connection between the two.

What gives? Am I missing something? TIA.

That is going to change in the near future. Laurel and MAnu are in the process of debugging a script based version of the rest of the site that will link the BB membership with site membership. There will still be the BB members record (the one from the profile Icon) and the member's profile page with picture and bio, but they will be linked so that updating information on one will also update information on the other.

Currently, the BB profile is a disply of the management record for the BB software -- the portion of the data file where information like your password and e-mail address is stored so the BB software can track how many posts you've made, keep others from using your username, route e-mail to you, link your personal home page to your posts, etc.

The Member's profile is currently a voluntary page where you can post additional information about yourself and a picture. It's a manually created and updated HTML page that is also used as the author's information page to lead interested readers to all of an author's works. (Pictures in the amateur pics area and stories.)

When the new script based version of the site is in place, registering for either the BB or the site will create a BB username, AND a member's profile page so you only have to register once, and every author will have a BB username for feedback to be addressed to.

I'm helping to debug the scripts, and the new system is going to be much better and easier for Laurel and Manu to manage. Stories will get posted faster, and the members will be able to update their profile(s) themselves much easier than is possible now.

Best of all, the stories will get posted much faster, and so there will be more stories to read every day.

Wow, Harold, you really do have answers!

Thanks a bunch! Now, to go off topic in my own thread, how do you do that thing with quotes? Getting it offset and labelled, that is.

Just getting the hang of this.

You make being the "answer man" easy, boy. :)

For more interesting things you can do to yourposts, check out the link to "vB code is on" (on most of the BB pages.)

There, you will find things like how to use bold, Italics and underlining in your posts too. Keeping the tags straight is sometimes a problem with quotes that include other quotes. You just have to experiment to get the post the way you want it to look. When editing a quote down to size, make sure you don't delete the square brackets around the formatting tags.

One word of caution: Using the IMG tag calls in pictures from other sites. That can slow down page loading for those with slow systems, and sometimes even for those with DSL or Cable connections if the site the picture is coming from is slow.
