Violence in stories?

Note, I am NOT talking about rape scenes, or people getting turned on by torturing other people. What I wanted to do was right an action story, which action sequences, and sex scenes a plenty.

I wasn't planning on going into gory, specific detail, nor have blood fly all over the place. I just want some explosions, gunfire, and hand to hand combat.

Is this kind of thing allowed on the site, and if so, how much before it gets to be too much?

Yep. In one of my first stories posted here the hero killed about twenty people.

Admittedly he was a vampire and he was pissed, so he had an excuse.

No complaints from anyone.

About the only place you can get in trouble with any sort of violence is when the violence is sexual in nature.

If it's just your standard car chases, gun battle, psychos with butcher knives type thing, you're really going to have to try to go overboard to step outside of Lit's restrictions on violence.

I've written many stories with varying degrees of violence and mayhem...nary a peep from anyone...they were pretty much well received. :D

Just no maniacs and ninja warriors under age 18. ;)

Go for it! I've been working on a WWII dogfight for over a half a year now; the more graphic, the more believable.

It turns me off when an erotic story has any kind of violence written into it.

I think even that can be okay sometimes. I mixed up sex with some fairly gruesome torture in my last Halloween story.

I'm fairly sure it's the realism/snuff factor that's the main taboo. i.e. Story about Normal Human doing very bad things to other Normal Human, written for the express purpose of arousing Sicko Human who would dearly like to do bad things to other Normal Human in real life.

There's plenty of torture in mine, too. The only sex-related snuff happens "off camera" in just the right place that you know what's happening, but don't actually read it.

As soon as it's sex-related, that's where you're pushing the line, though. Category can make a difference, too. A story that would get rejected in Non-Con might very well pass in Horror, or switched to that category.

Go for it, I've done quite a bit of violence, not a lotta gore, but action sometimes demands a certain level - all within the TOS of course......

Is blowing up a nuclear power plant and killing everyone in the story considered violent?

the key for non-sexual violence is whether it is "gratuitous violence" or integral to the story.

You can get exceedingly graphic and gory if it is necessary to the story -- action-adventure stories aren't very interesting without the hackenslashenboom component.

OTOH, if there is no obvious connection to the needs of the story, then some fairly minor (in comparison to hackenslashenboom) violence will raise questions.

In general if you have to ask yourself if the violence is too much, it probably isn't necessary to the needs of the story.
