So this idea is about a village that is relatively close to a viking settlement, at least for sailing routes.
On the regular the village is raided by vikings, usually on their way back from a raid they stop by the village for some extra loot and fun.
It has been this way for generations now and it has become the new normal for the village.
In the past the village has tried to fight back, but the vikings always cameout victorious leaving the village plundered and a lot of the men slain while the women were ravaged and often impregnated by the vikings.
A long time ago, the village adopted a system. The men and children hide away with food and valuables, leaving just enough resources for the vikings to have a pleasant journey to their settlement. They go to a shelter in the hills behind the village as soon as the viking sails become visible on the horizon. Every woman over the age of 18 stays behind, they let themselves get ravaged by the vikings. Because of this the vikings don't look further for their food and valuables.
There was a time when a lot of women were taken by the vikings, however this changed a couple of generations ago as well. The story goes that one time vikings came back from a failed raid, they came into the village with far less boats and the vikings were heavily beaten and bloodied, some sick after traveling with their injuries. The women, knowing that this was just one raid party of the vikings, knew that harming them further would only incur the wrath of the rest of the vikings. So they helped the vikings, bandaged them and let them recover a bit. For a couple of days the vikings stayed and recovered as the men and children stayed hidden.
Only 2 women were taken that time, however not kidnapped. They were asked to become viking wives by two vikings who weren't wed. Another woman was asked as well, but she already had a husband. After she said that the viking just smiled and through the language barrier he said "You stay." indicating that he wasn't planning on kidnapping her. Ever since that raid, the vikings have been kinder to the women, only taking them through proposals. This understanding between the village and the vikings has become the normal way of life. The men in the village aren't even too weak to fight, most of them had viking blood now as well after all, it was just how things were.
Eidis has turned 18 just a couple of months ago, she has yet to experience a viking raid. Even though she's a virgin, she looks forward to it. Then while having dinner with her parents, the alarm sounds. Her father immediately jumps up and orders them to throw all food and valuables in the prepared cart. Afterwards he gives her a big hug
"If you are not here when I return, I hope you found a kind viking husband who will give you anything you wish for." He tells her, before pressing a kiss down on her forhead.
Together with her mother they change into skimpy but old clothes that they don't mind being ripped apart. Then they stand next to their home, Eidis feels nerves surging through her stomach as she looks at the sails drawing closer and closer...
So what do you guys think? A bit too far fetched? I know it's not realistic, but I think I have enough 'history' to compensate for that a bit. Don't know if this would be a one-shot. Or multiple stories about the events that happened in the village (Which would mean switching main characters for each story, since they would happen far apart time-line wise.)
