Videocams. A writing question

I am writing a story in which a man and a woman sit in front of their computer screens and put on erotic displays for each other, culminating in masturbation. However, I have some questions about terminology. Is there any word besides "lens" for the lens on the cam through which the image passes. I doubt it, but I want to be sure.

I have been on a videocam and participated in conversations with relatives. On the lower left hand side of the computer screen is a small square that shows the image being received by the people on the other end of the conversation. What is this called? I have been calling it the monitor screen, but I think there might be a better word for it.

Any help is appreciated.

Ah, thanks. Ir does show exactly what the person on the other end is seeing, though, doesn't it? That "preview" idea throws me a little.

There's a bit of lingo as far as the lens goes. Some of them may fit, some may not.

Optic
Objective
Glass
You could refer to the inner workings of the lens, the aperture (this is the pupil of the lens)

That's all I can think of off the top of my head

As to the "preview window" I would call it a "capture" instead. Webcam capture, live feed capture, etc.

Yah, "Capture" is probably a more up-to-date terminology. I still think in the late 90s early 00 terms that I picked up from my camgirl admin days

There's also a thin, silicone membrane that may be fitted over the keyboard that can be a computer lifesaver when camming. I think it's called a sneeze guard.

"Live Feed Capture" or sometimes just the "Capture." And the lens, of course.
