Otter bites Minnesota triathlete 25 times....

"It had a gray head, little beaded eyes, and was very agile in the water. ... It would just like latch onto my leg and latch onto my thigh"

Story

Stop looking at me like that.

I'm more of a beaver.

"very agile in the water", as if that is needed to describe an otter. Great journalism. Sigh.

Beaver.

Michelle Bachman.

Fat people.

No more jokes for you people. I took them all.

I think that would have gone unsaid if it happened to me.

The guy just got mugged by a water-logged rodent. I suspect he is not at his best. Neither would I be, if I went out for a peaceful swim and was attacked by something that looks like a pair of slippers in the nerd dorm.

To lose the battle to something that is perhaps 20% of your body weight? Like being mugged by a Kindergarten student.

This has to have a lasting negative effect on his self-image....

Lucky it wasn't mating season.

ROTFL! Excellent point. And what a visual...

BTW, I'm on the Otter's side. I hope he/she gets in another bite or two when the broad comes back to that lake to swim the triathlon.

Really, a re-match is called for.

I wish I had sympathy, but I'm pretty sure I could take an otter and I think Darwin has some stuff to say about this.

those bites must have really hurt. 2" deep? as for her reactions, people simply don't expect to be attacked by something with teeth and claws just because they're swimming; hitch that surprise to the pain, shock and fear and i'd bet most people would be yelling for help, too. it's more likely that it was a female protecting pups, though maybe it was just a really really pissed off otter fed up with these big 'things' in its territory.

i don't think i've ever seen an otter in the wild.

I used to live in Circle Pines, Minnesota. And Tanner's Lake. I've been hunting up near Duluth, picked up a lot of little iron ore balls near the railroad tracks. Been on a couple hundred of the lakes (I am sure there are MORE than 10,000), and have seen plenty of otters.

But you usually have to sit still to see them. They stay away from people, usually.

I have my doubts than anyone can take an otter in the water. They are really much better there than we are. They won't stay on the surface where you can see them. They have long teeth and claws, you have short teeth and fingernails. They can swim faster, dive deeper, and stay under longer.

I'll put my money on the otter, and give you 10 to 1 odds.

She was on the edge of a bog. Why not...get to the bog...or gouge the damned things eyes out around bite number seven? A few bites I can get, but i can take the fucker out before the bites get to double digits.

That's panic talkin'.
