American Vice President JD Vance argued very strongly yesterday that any trade agreement between the United Kingdom and the United States MUST contain a provision that would essentially require His Majesty King Charles of the United Kingdom to "bend the knee" to newly crowned American monarch King Donald.

The proposed treaty would specify that American law, as interpreted by King Donald, would supersede British law insofar as "hate speech crime" is concerned.

Specifically, all British "hate speech" laws directed against those who would criticize and/or terrorize any British crown subject who happens to be LBGTQ+ would be "null and void". Protections against "Antisemitic speech", again as defined by King Donald, would still remain in place in Great Britain, until Jewish people are no longer necessary to serve as political tokens.

UK food and environmental safety has long been superior to the USA's. However, despite there being a ban on chlorinated chickens and hormone-fed beef in the UK (NOT in the USA... hey, brain-worm man, get on that), peter navarro is determined brits will love it once they taste it. It's worth noting that recently, RFK the US Health secretary banned the use of certain non-natural flavourings and dyes in US foods. Not one of my favourite guys but Kudos on that modest start.

The problem with USA sourced beef has 6 main strands, 1. It is full of hormones, particularly testosterone to promote faster growth. 2. It is not in fact USA beef as the big meat packers include Beef sourced from South America. Beef sold in the UK and EU must be traceable to its farm or locality of origin. 3. American beef is exposed to a number of diseases not found in UK/EU. 5. Europeans generally prefer grass fed beef while the US market prefers corn finished beef. 6. 95% of the meat packed in the USA is sold within the US domestic market so the meatpackers do not want to cater to the small requirements of foreign consumers.

I suspect that US farmers would be prepared to cater to buyer preferences but the meat packer industry is not interested, and that highly concentrated industry has the money when politicians seek donations.

An acquaintance of mine sells beef to Japan and if anyone thinks that UK/EU rules are strict, the Japanese are much tougher. The Japanese market however, has always been prepared to pay top $ but insists on the very best.

Seems like basic stuff, cleaning the farms and abattoirs properly. The EU keeps the animals clean during their life, the US cleans them up after death. They care about the animals in Europe.

The US Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System tests samples of raw chicken from shops for bacteria.

In its most recent round of testing it found a significant amount of the bacteria campylobacter - the most common cause of food poisoning - in 30% of chicken carcasses, 26% of chicken parts and 58% of "mechanically separated" chicken, which is used to make things like chicken nuggets.

It recorded how much of the chicken had more than 400 units of bacteria per gram of meat.

In the UK, the government's Food Standards Agency found 54% of chickens had traces of the bacteria but only 6% had the highest levels - more than 1,000 units of bacteria per gram of meat. Since they don't measure exactly the same thing, it's difficult to compare these results.
