Yeah, I know, you're shocked and never saw this coming...

Men taking drugs for sexual potency showed almost triple the rate of sexually transmitted diseases compared with those not taking the medications, a Harvard University study found.

The results, from an analysis of the health insurance claims of men aged 40 and older, may have more to do with the nature of the men using the impotence drugs than with the medicines leading them to have riskier sex, the research report said.
Full story here.

It's not especially shocking, but it does seem counter intuitive.

I would be interested to see a breakdown of the population in the survey. Who are the partners from whom they contract the STD?

I'm not sure why they led with the "Fear teh BONER!" rhetoric. The ED-drug population seemed to have higher rates of STDs to begin with, before their prescriptions.

'Cause it 'taint natural! If god wanted you old farts to have boners he'd have given you an extra dick to use once you wore out the first one ;)

If I had an extra dick I wouldn't know whether I was coming or going.

The advertisement for ED drugs is aimed at middle aged men in stable relationships. This would be one part of the population at very low risk.

Who are these old guys getting a dose of the clap, and from whom do they get it?

The study it appears only involves Americans. It would be far more relevant to ask, Why do Americans have infection rates for HIV AIDS between 4 and 7 times the rate for other western democracies ?

My guess is that ignorance and a lack of education are a far greater problem than Viagra.

I saw an article a couple of years ago regarding an outbreak of clap in a retirement community in Florida. The average age of the inhabitants exceeds seventy but once Viagra became available they began to party hearty. Unfortunately, since the only sex most of these widows and widowers had ever had was with their (now deceased) spouses so protection was never an issue. The on-site gerontologist had to do some quick education! Most likely the same situation applies . . .

Just slant the advertizing to:
"Fill a Trojan for Jesus- Viagra!"
