Very disappointed

So let me try this again.

Now before I go any further I'm going to say this. I have no concern whatsoever what any one here thinks of me. I've been accused of things and have had people render their opinions of me and could easily prove them wrong, but why bother?

I have nothing to prove to anyone in R/L never mind here in play land. But this time I am going to show you all a little something.

Many here think I hate the sight, don;t appreciate it etc....

Okay, well indulge me and click this link

This is the novel I just released that I am very proud of. Now humor me further and click the look inside and go to my acknowledgement page and read that paragraph and come back to this post.

Now that you know I I feel about this site-and it is how I feel, its not like that was a paid endorsement, let me tell you why shit like this pisses me off.

I think this site is great, but could be greater and not with a lot of effort. The contests, both monthly and themed, are seriously flawed and many have made some good suggestions that go unheeded.

People have made many suggestions about things they would like to see(and would not be a lot of work) but again, none of it is ever taken into consideration.

The word apathetic is the best one I can come up with. The rules, what there are of them, have never been updated and when newbies keep asking the same questions over and over again, they are met with sarcasm as if they are supposed to know what all the old timers know.

We all know how I feel about their very gray rape rule. It would not be gray if they simply put it somewhere rather than fool around with word games.

And as far as this one person skimming the stories it is ridiculous and leads to things like this.

There is nothing wrong with the OP's post. He is not being insulting he is simply frustrated. Having astory rejected is a little annoying, but then it's okay what's the reason?

Okay, here's the reason its ...... Okay fine. But wait I just searched and found dozens, hundreds of stories with ...... why was I singled out?

This is what leads to frustration. Now were they indeed "singled out" most likely not, it may have been Laurel's mood at the time, or she was paying more attention at the moment or many things.

But now the person is frustrated and doesn't understand. So they come here and post their frustration. They are coming to their "peers" to vent.

And what do they get? They get beset upon by lick spittles who crucify them for having the audacity to question the integrity of this site.

Some of you are so defensive about this place I wonder if some of you aren't paid by them.

Just because someone has a gripe does not mean they are personally insulting the site no more than the site is insulting them with the rejection.

So now they are set upon by the crusaders of lit and then end up saying "fuck it, who needs this?"

But its scouries and JBJ and Pilot and maybe me or anyone else who is considered a troll that drove them off, not this ridiculous circling of the wagons that goes on here.

As for favoritism? Hell yes it exists, even if its in the sense of people getting fast tracked or pushed up on the new story list.

Ask yourself, at this point does anyone think Laurel even opens a story by some like DG Hear or Red haired and friendly? No because they have been here forever so she doesn't bother.

And as for contests? Please, you have to be pretty naive to think it does not go on. Certain authors and definitely certain categories get more than an edge. Remember, no one knows how the final sweeps are done and the criteria for hoovered votes.

But know what? That's human nature, everyone plays favorites. Anyone wants to ask in a pm I can give some interesting points I've noticed in the last few contests to show I'm not just rambling.

My main point though is it's unfair to jump on someone who is simply frustrated and the best answer that can be given is "their site their rules" or "you can leave if you like" or "stop whining"

really? so okay, next time you get upset at work, I hope your co-worker tells you that. When you're upset at home and bitch-as we all do- then maybe our spouses should tell us we can leave if we don't like it. Next time your kid whines, tell them to get out and when they want a reason say "because"

Everyone is entitled to some frustration and should not be heckled for it. I hate to tell you, but many of you exude more than a little of a "better than" attitude around here.

If it makes you feel good to play king shit of turd mountain, then do go on, but stop acting like everyone who gets a little annoyed at the lack of real answers around here is on a vendetta against the site.

Sorry, you get what you give around here and on any other site you go to. You know that as well as I do.

As for your last bit, he got the only answers anyone here knows. If he don't like those then ask Laurel. We tried the best we could.

What king shit of turd mountain said with an addendum. I really like that phrase and I might keep calling him that. :D

Unless they say otherwise there are two people running this site. That is it, two. Only one of them knows how to do a website and I'm fairly certain he has a job.

So now, that we have that established, think about this one. All of the stuff on this website I'm fairly sure can't be just ported over into a new updated website. This means, the one person has to try and get everything behind the scenes updated without screwing up what is here. All of this is assuming that A) Either give a shit about the problems ya'll bitch about B) The place hosting the website lets him and of course the almighty C) They want to and are able to spend the time required.

People have made many suggestions about things they would like to see(and would not be a lot of work) but again, none of it is ever taken into consideration.

I'm a moderator on another site -- nothing to do with erotica -- and this certainly is not unique. You see problems, you make suggestions, they get ignored. Maybe they aren't totally ignored, just not acknowledged.

If Laurel really reads 100 stories a day I take my hat off to her. I get a bit erotica'd out after reading two or three in one day.

The stuff about phantom views can be weird at first. When I posted my first story I thought WTF? 60 views, and no approval? How many times do you need to read the blasted thing? But then I found out that they weren't real views, so now it made sense.

However the OP in this thread comes across as aggressive and rude. Even from the first post, where s/he want's a "straight answer" as if, up to this point, someone has been lying. Then there is no evidence at all presented. Maybe if s/he had quoted from the problem story, a few paragraphs, and then a link to the alleged "other" story which was "worse" there might have been a case.

And as for the other works with larger blocks of text that were published - well that's a double standard.

What other works?

The site isn't perfect. I'm not perfect. You're not perfect. Deal with it. But politely, please.

It could easily be ported actually. The whole site is, or could be, database driven, and the pages that are not DB can easily be made so, which would make those pages more flexible for the users and the administrators. . There are excellent social network/content managment systems available, Drupal for one-- huge, huge corporations use it to host huge multiuse sites. An upgrade of the DB would enable faster response time for everything from page loads to checking on reported stories, and would enable easier navigation through the libraries.

However, your A, B, and C are the big roadblocks! :)

The forums are up to date software, us who use them would never notice the change.

How do you know how much work it would take to do anything anyone's suggested? If this site is run on code as old as Stella has stated, it might be difficult to do even the simplest things. I agree that there have been good suggestions to improve lots of stuff on this site, but we aren't the ones doing the coding. And I imagine those in the know could look at the source code and see how old the code is, or how the site is written, and give a better assessment of what's easy to fix and what's not.

People have made many suggestions about things they would like to see(and would not be a lot of work) but again, none of it is ever taken into consideration.

We don't know that, necessarily, unless you make a suggestion to Laurel that she replies to. Otherwise, we just know the suggestions weren't enacted. I'm not defending anyone, just stating an observation.

Rejection does not mean "singled out." It just means rejected. Look, I know lots of stories get posted with long graphs, crappy grammar and punctuation and everything else. What's Laurel's system? No idea. But I can't imagine she has the time to single anyone out.

But now the person is frustrated and doesn't understand. So they come here and post their frustration. They are coming to their "peers" to vent.

No, they did not. The first few posts were straightforward and polite and answered as best we could. Some questions we can only give educated guesses for. If the answers -- as I so often tell my son -- are not what you want to hear, that isn't our fault.

Some of you are so defensive about this place I wonder if some of you aren't paid by them.

Oh for God's sake.

As for favoritism? Hell yes it exists, even if its in the sense of people getting fast tracked or pushed up on the new story list.

And perhaps you should stop acting as though anyone who answers with the facts at our disposal is in fact defending the site. I try to be polite and constructive with my answers, directing people to others when I am out of my depth. I understand frustration and venting and all of that. However, there comes a point where it does no one any good. If you have a real problem with a story, then PM Laurel, don't just complain in a forum.

ANYONE who wants to make a better-running site can do so.

Really, ANY ONE.

The internet is STILL a do-it-yourself world.

I've built better-running sites. But-- I haven't made a better site.

IMO, literotica is kinda like irreplaceable, regardless of its primitive coding.

Indeed. While royalty is normally exempt from that pesky little process called elections, I'd totally vote for TxRad in the King Shit of Turd Mountain competition.

Respectfully, of course. :D

What kind of competition should it be?
can't be a democratic election, of course.

A joust?

A joust?

A joust. Definitely a joust.

And of course, no extra . . . "equipment" will be needed for the jousting competition.

*fans self* OK. Perhaps I'll go and write something now.

Am I the only one who found the OP's posts very reminiscent of another poster who shows up occasionally to complain that Lit is prejudiced against them?

The thought crossed my mind but the style was different.

I checked the OP's submissions, not a newbie and certainly not a slouch. 21 submissions going back to 2005 so he should know the submission process. Of the 21, 11 have red-H flags (does it seem odd to have a 'hot' flag on non-erotic?).

What I'm guessing is the system has evolved under the recent increase in submission volume since his last submission in 2010 (until one 10 days ago). Still, his persecution complex will sour most posters. When he asked a question and then ridiculed responders on a personal level, he lost any support he might have gained.

The red H just means the story has 10 votes and a score of 4.5 or higher. So having one in NE shouldn't be odd at all even if they are hard to get on an erotic site.

It's hard to get the 10 votes on a non-erotic story.

Not to mention a few trolls that don't think there should be a Non-Erotic section on Lit.

I get trolls who think that because some of the sex in my stories is implied or off-stage that it is too much work for their brains - so my story should be categorised as Non-Erotic.

But even a Non-Erotic story gets more notice on Literotica than on dozens of other sites where only Non-Erotic stories could be posted.

Of course I know what is required to get a red-H. I was suggesting a different flag (letter/meaning) in the Non-E (et al.) category.
