I am not looking for arguments, So keep your opinions non-directed toward me please. I was just wanting to display some facts to others, to see what you all think?

It just so happens to be a local company, so I hear a lot of fuss about this Verichip thing.

Since 911 there has been several new products on the market to help solve security issues.

Applied Digital Solutions, a US based company has made a new chip called 'VeriChip' which is a Radio Frequency Identification chip which when scanned can deduct money from your bank account.

A Spanish nightclub which is having implant nights on Tuesday's will be the first to use the chip, giving clubbers the chance to pay for drinks and admission and not have to wait in a queue.

The chip doesn't have to be implanted just into the hand, but the chip can be injected into any other part of the body that is able to be flashed in front of the scanner.

A quote from another person:
"Yup. Hey, those "Verichip" are the marks of the beast which is talked in the bible. Believe me man, I thought that was just bedtime stories, but is real. The study of the perfect places to put the chip said that are: right hand or forehead(check Revelations book/*ya know, the last of the bible*/, chapter 13, verse 16-18 talks about it) and you'll find that.

I voted other, having one would assume you had anything in your bak account for it to deduct from :)

Colly unfortunately if you read the second news article you will see this little chip goes way further than bank accounts.

This is not like a prototype they are actually using this thing for many purposes, today/like right now.

My daughter's two dogs have verichips.

They are better authenticated than she is. Shame about their pedigree.

Hers? Impeccable, of course. Her mother told me so.

I write cyberpunk occasionally Phildo. It dosen't really make an impression on me, I guess because I am used to imagining technology run amok on a far more sinister evel when I write.

'Chipping' dogs and cats is commonplace in the UK. Each animal has a unique identifier that can be scanned at any vetinarian's surgery or police station.

Yet we UK humans don't have to carry any ID at all. If stopped by police for a driving offence we have seven days to produce a driving licence.

I'll have the chip implanted in the head of my dick. Then watch the fun when I buy a round of drinks.

LOL! Trying to mug you for your chip could either get seriously ugly or be an incentive! :p

Considering Murphy's law, a short circut could either get you shot or a concubine for life, depending on how she took the jolt ;)

Or... if we're taking the dim view... a short will keep you on

" Che.ap.er than .V.1.4.G.R.4. !!! "

for life.

:D

Imagine how much fun identity theft could be. "Come on, baby! Suck that chip right outa there!"

Boy, didn't those Portugese boys suck (bait).

Go Greeks (non-bait)!

"We're at an interesting age where all sorts of science fiction is becoming real technology,"

This is true, but the writers of this kind of puffery never have – it seems – read much of the genre. There is a far greater amount of dystopian predictions than utopian writing, with most of the latter being published before the advent of rapid global transport, rapid global communications, and a truly worldwide war – as opposed to a continental war with world wide participation. (WWI)

Most of the dystopian stories were produced following World War Two and continuing into the present. There is a reason behind this trend – experience.

LOL dr. m,

So far you have given the best reason to have one. I never thought of that!

I can see it now the time will come when you pay for a blow-job by the lick. Implant a scanner in the roof of the madames mouth and .50 cents is deducted with each pass.
Better not jerk too much when you cum!

Gives a whole new meaning to the term slot-machine.

I brought up this topic, because a few years ago I heard about it and at the time it concerned me, but more or less I dismissed it as just another craze.

I hear that larger corporations are indeed making it a part of their standard security systems. Not by force, but with stern recomendations. I also hear of goverment and other facilities trying to incorporate this security feature. It has been a quite the debate for security at airports. At one point the talk was to make it mandatory for U.S. Air travel.

I can understand why; I also see the benifits for a person holding finances, medical, access,... records all with the convience of not loosing or destroying such a data mechanism as keys , ID, Credit cards, and so on...

Personally I don't like the idea of a mini tracking device implanted; (Big brother is watching you) I don't care if it was the size of a grain of salt.

The system works with radio waves. How long will it take before some wiz kid with a PDA and a brisk walk through a mall can steal accounts?

Talking with many Bible scholars, not all. But most will say this is not the mark of the beast refered to in Revalations. Yet still some mainly Baptist tend to feel this is the step toward that prediction. Yadda, yadda, that is not my reasoning for why I don't support it. But is a concerning thought just the same.

Yep, I'll take a few of them. They're just what I always wanted. A way for anyone with a scanner to know my medical history, my financial history, and if they have enough money know where I am at any given time, and who I am with. Yep, sounds like fun to me. Does this sound like paranoid delusions? Maybe but maybe not. Think about this.
At the beginning of the Nazi Regime they insisted everyone have an I.D. Card, complete with their religeon and home address. If you wanted to move you had to clear it with the government. If you were undesirable for the neighborhood you wanted to move into, or the government just plain didn't like you moving they told you NO!
Another example? Communist countries require all citizens to carry I.D. at all times, which can be checked at any given time. If you are in an area or neighborhood they don't want you to be in this is easily verifiable.
In the United States we already have way too many questions asked of us, including Race, and Sexual Orientation. Do you want to carry that in a chip anyone with a reader can access? Especialy with the way our government is now leaning towards more controll of the populace? Not to mention the questions being raised about the legality of Sexual Orientation?
"Hmmmmm, I see here you stopped in at a bar known for having Homosexual Activities laast week Mr. Smith."
"But Officer I didn't know it was a Gay Bar. I just stopped in for a beer on my way home from work."
"That doesn't matter. It shows here you bought two beers and were there for an hour. What were you doing there for an hour? I'm going to have to run you downtown for questioning."

Or better yet, with the way our government is going.
"Mrs. Smith I pulled you over because of a defective Tail Light. Hmmmm, it shows here that your daughter was shown to be alone with a boy in a car for over an hour last night. Can yu explain that?"
"Why no oficer. I was out of town on a bussiness meeting as your records should show."
"Well that doesn't matter. We have her downtown right now and I think you should join her. That way you and her can show the judge just what she was doing and where she learned it."

Sounds like just the society I want to join, how about you?
