I’m looking for the best seafood dining in Ventura. Some hidden gem that the locals know. Directed to Lure by a schmocal and Yelp and it was too touristy with smarmy waitstaff.

Oysters!
Calamari!
Cioppino!
Abalone?

No Yelpers!

And don’t tell me the salmon comes from “the store”.

Lure is OK, but I wouldn't go there if just passing through, parking is a bitch. Plus the place is noisy as hell. And thank God they just demo'd Joe's Crab Shack. Hopefully that crappy chain NEVER returns to Ventura.

Try The Beach House. It's on the Ventura Pier near the Crown Plaza hotel. Plenty of parking at the State beach lot so skip the parking garage near the hotel. Exit 101 at Seaward. Head north on Harbor Blvd (frontage road parallel to the freeway on the beach side). You can't miss the pier. For your mapfinder/GPS - The Beach House Restaurant, 668 E. Harbor Blvd, Ventura, Ca.

The Greek Restaurant at Ventura Harbor. Exit 101 at Seaward. Go south on Harbor Blvd to Spinnaker Drive. Head west on Spinnaker (it hooks around the marina to a shopping/tourist trap area. The restaurant is in there (along with Andria's Fresh Seafood which is more of a fish 'n chips place). Mapfinder/GPS - The Greek Mediterranean Steak and Seafood, 1583 Spinnaker Dr, #101, Ventura, Ca.

I've been to both and if I had to choose, I'd pick The Beach House.

Both places have hotels close by. Motel 6 Ventura Beach (it's on Harbor blvd near Seaward) and a Holiday Inn Express near The Greek at Harbor and Spinnaker.

Motel 6 - 2145 E. Harbor Blvd, Ventura, Ca.
Holiday Inn Express - 1080 Navigator Drive, Ventura, Ca.

Silly gurl, salmon doesn't come from the store. It comes from Alaska.

Awesome! Thanks, I thought you may come thru. I know exactly where Seaward is, The Beach House caught my eye as I looked around online. I know where the Crowne Plaza is, the big sore thumb by the...horse racing? Will have to look at the Greek.
The beach dump was quite a find! Last time dining in SB, the special was salmon. I perked up and asked where did they get their salmon from? “The store”. I laughed out loud. ‘Nuf said.

The Derby Club. It's at the Fairgrounds and is nothing more than online betting.

Yes, the Crowne Plaza is a sore thumb. It used to be the Holiday Inn a couple/three decades ago. Now it's just dumpy.

There's a Marriott on Harbor if you want upscale hotel facilities. There's a decent Denny's right across the street from it and the Motel 6. Skip eating at the Carrow's Restaurant at the intersection of Harbor and Seaward - the place smells like they don't clean their bathrooms. They do, it just smells like they don't.

Enjoy the sunset on the beach while you're here. And don't forget to wave hello / g'bye in my direction toward the hills. I'll wave back. Maybe. :D

The Lure Fish House on California Street. Try the Lobster Ravioli.

Not there today, it’s waiting in the shade at Magic Moubtain. I need to find the beer garden, I can’t do the loop-di-loops anymore. Crap it’s hot here.

Yeah, no...Carrows would never be considered...did find the Safeway behind it for a Red Bull.
Social Tap had a good Bloody Mary bar. No really, the beach find couldn’t be better. Sunsets have and will be enjoyed.

Any live music...?

It ain't hot yet. Wait 'till August. Then you can complain when it's 110*. Or do like I did on Saturday, be in Bakersfield at the other house doing a brake job in the driveway. It was only 105* but the tools got HOT to the touchies. :)

Live Music? Hmmm...

There's Copa Cubana. Authentic Cuban food with live entertainment most weeknights and weekends. It's not always music though. At the Ventura Harbor; 1575 Spinnaker #103, Ventura.

Bombay Bar & Grill. Mostly a dive bar that serves food but they have live music on weekends. 143 S. California St, Ventura.

In Oxnard there's the Copper Blues Club. 581 Collection Blvd, Oxnard. They have live music, a free summer outdoor concert series and good food. Copper Blues website You could call them to see what's on their event calendar when you're going to be here. The contact number on their website.

If I had to choose it'd be Copper Blues for music and food.

Hay, wait just a second here...

I think I'm being had. You came, rousted the local Safeway, drove my city streets, axed me questions on where to eat, maybe even ate at that Denny's I mentioned earlier in this thread; an' you dint even wave hi/g'bye as you stole all the local beef?

What are you, some kinda highway robber?

As an aside, there was this gal at the Denny's on Harbor Blvd yesterday morning around 10-ish. Late 20's / early 30's with blonde hair and straight cut bangs at eyebrow level. I didn't even know you were in town and now I'm wondering if that was you. Naw, couldn't have been, she was wearing shorts and sandals not chaps and cattle rustling boots. Excepting this is SoCal in the summer and she had the whitest skin I've ever seen.

Care to confirm or deny? About not waving hello, or even flying the finger, is I what I'm saying here.

The Jolly Oyster was discovered and I learned how to schuck. After putting on 3000 road miles, a relaxing time was had on the American Riviera.

This dead soldier was a lovely drink.

Glad you liked it. The molluscs were probably commercially grown somewhere. Right now there's the yearly "do not harvest/eat wild molluscs" warning because of Biotoxins/Domoic Acid concerns.

Did you have the shack fix them for you? Or did you do it yourself at one of the picnic areas?

Yes, that soooo describes me. Except I’m now sporting an awesome tan.
This all sounds like a gastronomic delight.

Thai, sushi, fish and meat tacos, fantastic Bloody Mary’s, linguica, but my fave from Ventura was the simple fare. Oysters, foo foo cheese and baguette.

Well, hell. I would have been honored to treat you to breakfast had I but known. I was sitting 4 booths away and, like ships in the night, we just quietly passed each other by.

My loss.

Mix in a lot of bourbon and I'm in... :p

There was no warning of red tide/toxic wastes. Kommodores and Pacifics and something else? 3 dozen unshucked were bought, and I’ll admit even one was a tough nut to crack. Picnic table and umbrella was set up, white wine to accompany the beautiful day.

Thank you, I was otherwise engaged.

Bourbon was also consumed!

You made it down to Laguna Beach?

Hmmm I was in San Diego and Huntington, but ‘tween those points was rush hour, white knuckle, after dark driving.
